Mayor Kriseman's Small Business Tour

This week, Mayor Kriseman visited with Mary Allen from Savvy Green, a company that offers products and services to ensure healthy homes and lifestyles; the Rock Shop, a one-of-a-kind jewelry store on Central Avenue where most of the products are designed and hand-crafted in-house; Kozuba & Sons Distillery, a small-batch distilling company originally from Poland; St. PetersBARK, offering quality dog food and treats they produce; and Make Me Studio, a DIY art studio that features open crafting hours as well as craft projects, art camps and a location for parties.

Tampa Bay Times: Tyrese heats up 95.7 Beats by the Bay at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg
As the clock ticked hard toward a 10 p.m. curfew,
Tyrese did what Tyrese does, and made the nervous crowd feel just fine.
"They're telling me that if I go overtime, somebody's gotta pay," the actor and singer said with a debonair shrug. "F--- it. I got it."

Mass Transit: CSX Tracks May be Route to Commuter Rail's Future
Is the solution to the Tampa Bay area's mass transit woes already crisscrossing Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties?
That's a question local planners will begin considering in the weeks and likely years to come as Jacksonville-based CSX Corp. considers selling off two rail lines that could conceivably be operated as commuter routes.

Tampa Bay Times: Restaurant openings: Kahwa drive-through, Ichicoro Ramen, Bowled Express and more
Wednesday is shaping up to be an exciting day for Tampa Bay foodies. It starts bright and early as
Kahwa Coffee celebrates the opening of its eighth location and first St. Petersburg drive-through.
Head to 3901 3rd St. N starting at 7:30 a.m. and St. Petersburg mayor Rick Kriseman and celebrity pitchman Anthony Sullivan (he's the face of OxiClean) will serve up free coffee beverages to visitors until 10 a.m.

Tampa Bay Times: City block frozen in time could soon be ripe for development
A key block on Central Avenue with two vacant, deteriorating buildings that have long been a blockade to progress may finally have a future as a prime development site.
A lucrative 99-year lease that doesn't expire until 2058 between the property owners and a real estate investment trust has given the owners little incentive to sell. They stand to collect about $700,000 a year for 43 more years or $30 million. And the REIT locked into the lease has little incentive to renovate a building on land it doesn't own.

Creative Loafing: Ask the Locals, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman
When Rick Kriseman was 9, his family moved (or, in his words, "escaped") from Detroit to the west side of St. Pete. He attended the University of Florida and Stetson Law, went on to serve as a city councilman and a state legislator, and was elected mayor in 2014. The city in which he grew up is no longer the sleepy burg Kriseman, 53, remembers from when he was a kid.

La Gaceta: Tampa Bay's Other Mayor
We all know how assertive and pro-active Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is.
He's the city's CEO, chief recruiter and head cheerleader. By charter and persona, he's the strong mayor of the largest city in the Tampa Bay metro market. He knows his way around a bully pulpit. He's been to Washington to lobby for Riverwalk grants, to talk trade issues with President Obama and to meet the Pope. The last Republican National Convention and the initial visit of the Bollywood Oscars were on his watch. Gubernatorial speculation is still a given.
