Your update on what we do and how you can help

Yes!!!! Our Fundraising Breakfast was a HUGE Success!
Done and DONE! To a standing-room-only crowd, our "Open Doors to Independence" breakfast on Thursday, October 29, was a huge success. Over 130 guests attended and we more than doubled our anticipated fundraising goal! A mountain of thanks to our attendees, table captains, board and staff who worked so hard to make this happen.

After School Alliance
Community Lodgings hosted an Open House at Fifer Learning Center to support the National After School Alliance's national LightsOn event to highlight afterschool programs. Special thanks to our board, volunteers and other community members who came to observe and participate in the really fun games learning that our staff teaches our kids every day.
Fall Happenings
We've been busy this fall enjoying all that the season has to offer. Our after-school students loved their pumpkin patch adventure at Immanuel Church on the Hill on October 23 and each student took a pumpkin home. Shoutout to Douglas Henry for donating the pumpkins to us! Our staff passed out candy to local kids as they got off the school buses on Friday, October 30. The next day, our girls' mentors and mentees hosted a bake sale at the Del Ray Farmers' Market to raise funds for their fun, educational, and healthy weekly activities. The group baked cupcakes and brownies for the event and earned more than $600!
Staff and Volunteer Tutor/Mentor Training on October 13
Something good on Friday the 13! Alexandria City Public Schools specialists will train staff and volunteers on techniques for working with first through twelfth graders who  are learning the English language. Training is from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Fifer Learning Center. Please contact Melanie Ficke at [email protected]  if you wish to attend.

'Tis the Season...

It takes a village  t o   make the holidays wonderful for our families, and we would love your volunteer help for any or all of these important and festive events:

Friday, December 11 - Set up for our Holiday Store.
Saturday, December 12 - Our child and parent Holiday Party at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center.
Monday - Wednesday, December 14-16 - Our Holiday Store at the Fifer Learning Center (Dec 14-16) and Brent Place (Dec 16). Our kids will have the opportunity to "buy" gifts for their families through the "behavior bucks" they earned throughout the year. Please visit our Amazon Wish List to see the most-requested gifts, and we would love it if you would purchase a few for our kids. Your gifts are delivered right to us, and we will take it right to our store. Please contact Melanie, [email protected], to sign up for any volunteer activity.
