Kids Fishing Derby 2015 - Nov. 28

Kids who are able to hold their own fishing pole may participate in the 
free  fourth annual "Ding" Darling Kids Fishing Derby to be held at the Sanibel Causeway Islands Park (Island A) on 
Saturday, November 28 , 2015.

November 17: 
Next Solar Community Meeting

The next SanCap Solar Connect informational Solar Community meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the "Ding" Darling Visitor & Education Center auditorium. Refreshments will be available. No reservations are necessary to attend the meeting. Another Solar Community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, at the same time and place. Deadline for "Ding" Darling - Theodore Cross

January 1, 2016, marks the deadline for high school students to enter the third annual "Ding" Darling-Theodore Cross High School Photography Contest. High school students in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry counties can compete for prizes that include a Canon digital SLR camera,
Theodore Cross' coffee-table book of stunning bird portraits.
a package, chartered class trips to the Refuge, and copies of Waterbirds: Portraits and Anecdotes from Birding  Adventures by contest namesake, the late Theodore Cross. He lived part-time on Sanibel Island and has family still living here READ MORE

2016 "Ding" Darling Free Lecture Series
Sex, Drug, and Sea Slime ; Ditch of Dreams ; The Plant World of the Calusa ; and Rain : The book titles featured in the 2016 "Ding" Darling Nature Store Friday Lecture Series are as intriguing as varied. The 13-lecture series takes place in the "Ding" Darling Visitors & Education Center Auditorium starting Friday, January 8, and ending April 15. Due to their popularity, the free lectures will be held twice each scheduled Friday, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Click here for a complete schedule of 2016 lectures.

Stokes Birding Tours
Lillian Stokes (forefront, above) leads a bird photography tour, while Don (third from right to the right) leads a bird identification tour.

Tarpon Bay Explorers hosts this month's Sanibel-Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce After Hours on Monday, November 16, 2015, at its bayside campus from 5:30 to 7 p.m. George & Wendy's Seafood Grille caters the members-only event.

Ranger Toni Goes Backyard

As part of Refuge Outreach, Ranger Toni Westland has created a series of nature videos for Tanglewood Elementary School in Fort Myers that encourage students every Friday to get outside during the weekend. Here  she talks about wildlife the kids may see in their backyards.
