The Dating and Relationship Group:  What is Sexual Anorexia?
In recent years, considerable attention has been paid to problems of sexually compulsivity, sexual addiction, and internet pornography addiction.  A sexual problem related to these conditions that has been largely under-emphasized both in popular culture and the scientific literature is "sexual anorexia." Originally conceptualized several decades ago, sexual anorexia is an important condition to understand in today's environment given that it lies at the intersection of sex and love addiction, two well-documented and highly prevalent problems today.  In this next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, November 21, 2015 (12:00 to 1:15 PM), I will describe the signs and features of sexual anorexia and the psychological pathways that give rise to its emergence.   The consequence of this condition on romantic relationships will be considered, including its role in intimacy avoidance.  Similar conditions also will be discussed with an emphasis on how they serve to negotiate vulnerability, dependence, and closeness in human bonds.

The Men's Group:
The 75-Year Harvard Grant Study
This research project, which began in 1938, tracked 268 Harvard undergraduate men for 75 years.  A wide array of factors was assessed across these men's lifespans, including financial, social, psychological, emotional, and medical variables. Recently, one of the study's directors, George Valliant, published "Triumphs of Experience," an account of some of the major findings of this study.  In this next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, November 21, 2015 (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM noon), I will describe these findings and elaborate on their implications.  Group discussion will focus on attendees' reactions to the findings and the extent to which alterations to one's current lifestyle may be suggested given Valliant's conclusions.
