The Wedding at Cana

John 2 :1-2 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited. And they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the guests had all been used, and the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."
News from the Atrium

Dear Families,

Great news to share - we will be ready this Sunday, Jan. 17, to introduce our youngest children to a new space and time.  So here's the plan for this Sunday:

Level I (ages 3-6) - meeting in classroom 3 (one down from the nursery).

Level II (ages 6 and up) - this Sunday meeting in our regular classroom 6.

Time slot for both:

8:30am - 10:30am

Don't panic!  Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is set up for flexibility.  So if you can only bring your child in at 9:15 (or even later), that's fine.  The earlier you can bring them, however, the more time they have for spiritual work.  As an adult observer in the atrium, you notice how long it takes, often, for a child to get centered, and really begin meditative work.  We encourage you to give a longer session a try - for their sakes!

If you'd like to pick up your child earlier, too, that is fine.

And do take advantage of the Adult Ed time, 9:15am-10:15am in classroom 4 - I'm biased, but Nathan Jennings does a terrific job taking questions and just helping people grow deeper in the faith.

Peace,
Kelly

How To Speak Episcopalian

We Episcopalians use a lot of strange words, like "Canticle," "Collect" and "Liturgy." Often we just assume that everyone knows what they mean, but that isn't always true. Each week, we'll take a word out of our Order of Service and explore what it means, both the definition, and in the wider spiritual sense.

This week's word is "Liturgy." It comes from Greek and means the work of the people. Liturgy encompasses everything that we do in worship and praise in our services.

It includes the Ministry of the Word: scripture readings, preaching the word; prayers of the people and if there is confession -- everything up to and including the Peace.

It then includes the Holy Eucharist: It begins with the offertory, includes The Great Thanksgiving, the Lord's Prayer, Holy Communion, the prayer after Communion and the Dismissal.

So Liturgy is truly the work of the church. It is the work that binds us together in our common prayer whenever we come together to actually BE the church. Our common prayer is one of the unique qualities of being an Episcopalian.

A Few Good Samaritans Needed

Some of you may know that there are several folks at the rehabilitation center next door to ECR, who would like to attend the 10:30 Eucharist Service regularly. That requires that someone walk over and push their wheelchair over to the church. We need more volunteers to help our ushers and others. Please see Fr. Billy Tweedie and Mr. Joe Page to assist these lovely people who want to join us in Holy Communion.
Annual Parish Reports

Those of you who have reports due for the annual meeting, and you know who you are, coming up on Jan. 17th, please e-mail your report to the church office no later than Monday, Jan. 11th. Please be prepared to give an oral report at the annual meeting on Sunday.
