Study Abroad: Prague
Expanding Experiences

Professor Julia Cybularz and several students, including 4 photo majors, spent five weeks studying, photographing and living in Prague with other members of the Drexel and New Orleans University community. Julia Cybularz said, "The students really branched out of their comfort zones this year and embraced their study abroad experience. Being in a new environment really inspires and encourages students to experiment and expand on their usual working methods. Students immersed themselves in all that the city had to offer from sights, museums, galleries, restaurants and even some nightlife. They visited Josef Sudek's intimate studio and saw the powerful Auschwitz Album. The Auschwitz Album is the only surviving visual evidence of the process leading to mass murder at Auschwitz-Birkenau.  Julia teamed up with architectural professors for several class visits to enhance the student's experience  and understanding of Prague's unique spaces.

This year the students took every opportunity to explore nearby cities including a visit to Vienna. On the Vienna trip students experienced an opera in one of Europe's oldest theaters and visited numerous museums.
