"Ask a Master Gardener" Assignment Each week after lunch, Scott and Jen Pelham (as she can) will host a 10 minute "Ask a Master Gardener" discussion. Please be prepared to discuss the following question:
  • I want a nice landscape for our home in Vista, but I don't want it to require too much water.  Can you recommend a good landscape designer and contractor?
What's Going to Happen?
Session 3 will start with announcements followed by "The Good, Bad and the Bugly".  Do you know our  friends and foes?  This week's "star" is:
Bagrada Bug
Hint:  Not a friend!
Our instructors for the morning session are Liz Woodard, Mo Price and Linda Stewart , all members of the Class of 2010 and Docents at San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas.  Coincidentally, they all became interested in Horticulture after retiring from corporate life.
Linda Stewart, Mo Price, Liz Woodward
Linda Stewart, Mo Price, Liz Woodward
Since becoming involved in Horticulture, Liz has worked in the Horticulture Department at MiraCosta College.  Mo lectures on Mediterranean Plants with an emphasis on Southern Hemisphere natives.  Linda has brought her expertise from teaching professionals in the medical industry to the MG new class training program.   All three are very active Master Gardeners, working behind the scenes on many projects and lending a hand at most events.

Liz and Mo will present the morning topic "Introduction to Horticulture".  Please preview their PowerPoint on the training web site. You may print the document, to assist in taking notes.  click here

Linda will introduce the "What's That Bloomin' Thing?" project, which will give you the opportunity to learn about plants in San Diego County.  Please preview the two documents in the "Bloomin" tab on the Training web site. or click here

Our afternoon lab will start after the  "Ask the Master Gardener" session.    Led  by Ray Conser, the Plant ID Lab
Ray Conser
promises to be an eye opening experience.  " What?, I'm eating the flower of a dicot with whorl ed leaves?"  A chocolate kiss if you tell me what I'm talking about!
