The Arts Opportunities newsletter is published by the Arizona Commission on the Arts to provide Arizona artists with relevant local, national and international opportunities. This monthly newsletter includes announcements of Arts Commission artists grants, programs and opportunities, along with a selection of current opportunities listed on the Arts Commission's website.

2016 ARTIST RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT GRANTEES
Artist Research _ Development Grants
On Monday, January 11, 2016, the Arizona Commission on the Arts announced the recipients of Artist Research and Development Grants for Fiscal Year 2016. This highly-competitive grant program awards funding to Arizona artists practicing in a variety of artistic disciplines in support of research and development leading to the creation of new works of art.

ARIZONA
Call for Artists: Intersections of (-Isms)
AZ Culture
Location: Phoenix
Deadline: Monday, February 15, 2016
ASU Project Humanities, AZ Culture, VelNonArt, Artelshow and Live On Central, seek artists to apply to participate in a socially engaged art event.  The call is open to all artistic media and seeks work that addresses the intersections of individual and group experiences.

WVAM Celebration of Artists 2016 
West Valley Art Museum
Location: Peoria
Deadline: February 19, 2016 
The West Valley Art Museum seeks artists for a juried exhibit that will be on view at the Peoria City Hall Art Gallery. The exhibit will be on view from March 28 to May 12, 2016. 
 
Call for Artists: Public Art Piece
Housing Authority of Maricopa County
Location: Phoenix
Deadline: February 12, 2016
The Housing Authority of Maricopa County seeks artists to apply for the opportunity to create a public art piece in south Phoenix. The selected artist (s) will work closely with the development team to design, create and install the art features in the community. The vision is to have art pieces that represent the history and culture of the project and the community. 
NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL
Call for Artists: Solo Exhibition in NYC 
Dacia Gallery
Location: New York, NY
Deadline: February 5, 2016
Dacia Gallery invites emerging and established artists to submit artwork for an opportunity to have a two-week solo exhibition in May 2016. The selected artist will receive funding in the amount of $1,000. The gallery seeks new artists to exhibit and represent. 
 
Call for Artists: 6th Annual Ten Minute Play Contest
Durango Arts Center
Location: Durango, CO
Deadline: February 12, 2016
The Durango Arts Center requests submissions of original, never before produced plays from both emerging and established playwrights for its yearly 10-Minute Play series. The top five finalists will have readings staged in the spring and a full production debut in the fall. 

Call for Artists: Cultural Icons
Linus Galleries
Location: Online
Deadline: February 12, 2016
Linus Gallery requests submissions in all art mediums that commemorate or represents cultural icons. Works will be juried into an online exhibition and those accepted will be juried a second time for a group exhibition in Linus Gallery in Los Angeles. 

Call for Jurors: IMTour
Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF)
Location: Online

In preparation for the launch of a new service for touring musicians called IMTour™, Westaf is looking for jurors to help adjudicate applications of professional musicians and bands for a position on the IMTour roster. 
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I-Park 2016 Artist-in-Residence Program
Location: East Haddam, CT
Deadline: January 25, 2016
Artists are invited to apply to a multi-disciplinary program open to those working in the visual arts, creative writing, music composition/sound art, architecture, moving image and landscape/garden/ecological design. The program is offered at no cost to invited artists and includes private living quarters, private studio space and a food program.

2017 U.S./Japan Creative Artists' Program
National Endowment for the Arts and U.S. Japan Friendship Commission
Deadline: February 1, 2016
Artists are invited to apply for a three to five month residency in Japan. The grant award will cover housing, living and professional expenses for a single artist or a collaborative team as well as round trip transportation. 
 
Figure Painting Residency in NYC
Dacia Gallery
Location: New York, NY
Deadline: February 5, 2016
Artists are invited to apply for an intensive two-week figure-painting program. The classes will alternate between figurative painting and drawing and the business of art. An exhibition and opening reception will be held for the participating resident artists. 

2016-2017 Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Deadline: February 15, 2016
The mission of the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program is to provide working studio space and community for artists to support the development of new works of art. Visual artists are invited to apply for a year-long residency that will provide rent-free private studio space located at 20 Jay Street in Brooklyn, NY. 
  
Woodstock A-I-R Program
The Center for Photography at Woodstock
Location: Woodstock, NY
Deadline: February 29, 2016
Artists of color working in the photographic arts are invited to apply for this residency intended to encourage participants to pursue creative risk-taking. The program provides accommodations, workspace facilities, critical and technical support, stipend for food and travel, honorarium, exhibition and related opportunities. 

Arts/Industry Residency Program
John Michael Kohler Arts Center
Location: Sheboygan, WI
Deadline: April 1, 2016
Artists are working in any discipline are invited to apply for a residency working in the Kohler Co. Pottery, Iron and Brass Foundries, and Enamel Shop to develop a variety ofwork in clay, enameled cast iron, and brass.

Emerging performance and installation artists are encouraged to apply for this unique residency, a program which focuses on the process and facilitation of idea development and iteration.

Professional Development Grants

Professional Development Grants (PDG) are designed to assist Arizona artists, arts administrators and arts educators with funding support for participation in professional development and skills-building activities which contribute to significant professional growth.
 
Cultural and Artistic Enrichment Grants
US Bancorp Foundation
Deadline: February 1, 2016 (application not available until January 22, 2016)
The Cultural and Artistic Enrichment Grants are intended to support programs designed to build audiences for the arts, especially among underserved populations. The foundation aims to bring select and limited civic amenities to underserved, rural communities and to promote the arts in education. 
 
2016 Visual Arts Scholarship 
Arizona Artists Guild
Location: Phoenix 
Deadline: February 5, 2016 
Available to full-time graduate and undergraduate fine/studio arts majors from all Arizona colleges and universities. Chosen winners will exhibit submitted work plus 1-3 additional pieces at the Shemer Art Center in Phoenix in spring for one month. 
 
Fund for National Projects
Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
Deadline: February 26, 2016 for Letter of Inquiry
The fund for National Projects seeks grant applications that focus on strengthening the national infrastructure of the professional nonprofit dance, jazz, presenting and/or theatre fields; or focus on improving the conditions for the national community of performing artists in professional nonprofit dance, jazz and theatre. 
 
National Creative Placemaking Fund
Artplace America
Deadline: March 2, 2016
ArtPlace looks to fund projects that work with artists and arts organizations to help build stronger, healthier communities throughout the United States. Projects that address challenges related to agriculture/food, economic development, education/youth, environment/energy, health, housing, immigration, public safety, transportation, or workforce development are encouraged to apply.
