RATES for Fiscal Year 2016

The 2016 fiscal year rates will be posted soon. Look for an IDS special release in the next week or so.

On another fiscal note, the Division has recently posted the DCS 2014 Cost Savings Report that includes an IDS Summary for both the Northern and Southern locations. The DCS 2014 Rate Comparison Report  is posted as well with sample IDS projects compared with private sector vendors.

Big Volumes This Year for Pueblo

For the month of June, the IDS Pueblo Scanning Unit had their best month ever! IDS scans, on an average, around 1.7 million images in the month of June. This year, the team processed 3.4 million images. Cindy Goure, IDS Southern Regional manager, said this was the most images ever processed in one month, even during peak processing. Both the prep and scanning sections came together and put in a lot of extra effort to accomplish such a task. IDS received new projects in late May that added to the mix; and everything needed to be complete by June 30, the end of the fiscal year. The employees worked five weekends, three shifts and overtime for the entire month of June. This is a small group of five state employees and approximately ten temporary workers.

The Data Entry Unit also did over 33 million keystrokes each month for April, May and June, where normal months are between 10 and 20 million.

Keeping Up With Trends & Industry Standards

As you may already know, there has been a lot going on in the IDS Print and Mail Operations these last few months. The old print shop and outgoing mail areas are being transitioned to improve and optimize the operator workflow. There have been numerous transitions throughout the years but this new vision is going to streamline our processes even more.

In the Outgoing Mail Area, IDS is acquiring some new inserters and moving away from outdated equipment. This new equipment will ensure that IDS stays ahead of the trend in mail and continue to remain in line with mail processing industry standards. The new equipment will distinguish best shipping rates automatically, which is inclusive of USPS, UPS and FedEx. What this means is that IDS can assure our customers that the cost of shipping a package will always be at the lowest cost. This equipment will print a unique barcode for each piece that can be used to track items to its final destination.

In the Print Shop, IDS is continuing to move at a rapid speed with our new continuous feed inkjet. It processes more jobs at an incredible rate of speed; three times the amount in one hour then before. One of the questions IDS' print manager, Steve Wilkerson, has been asked is, "Why the need for this new piece of equipment?" "We recognized the need to stay ahead of the trend in an industry that is moving towards continuous feed inkjet machines and this equipment will allow us to keep up with industry standards, says Wilkerson." It offers customers more options including printing color on materials that had been limited to black and white in the past, along with higher volume capabilities; the higher the volume, the potential for lower cost to the customer.

"As leaders in the government print/mail segments of support services, IDS realizes that print is a communications tool, and with the evolution of communication, our services have been positioned to evolve to ensure timely, targeted communications with businesses and residents of the State of Colorado. IDS will continue to work with our customers to anticipate future needs, keeping our offerings relevant," says the Colorado State Printer, Mike Lincoln.

IDS Designers Awarded on National Level

The 2015 January/February issue of the Colorado Heritage Magazine, designed by IDS for the Colorado Historical Society, took the Gold Award of Excellence in the magazine category for the 2015 Communicator Awards.

IDS Designer, Darren Eurich, has been designing Heritage Magazine since 2001. The Historical Society briefly decided to produce the magazine in-house in 2007 to save on costs but returned the project back to IDS in 2011.

The 2015 IDS Wall Calendar, designed by Rick Ciminelli as an internal marketing tool, took the Silver Award of Distinction in the marketing category at the 2015 Communicator Awards.

The calendar also took Second Place at the 2015 awards banquet for the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association. The theme this year was Colorado historical architecture and buildings, ghost and mining towns, forts and homesteads.
