Play with Pride ...
was the message the fans heard Martyn Spong shout out at Leatherhead. No doubt this is the message that will be bouncing round the dressing rooms of the Ryman Premier League over the next few weeks. A club man with an amazing amount of respect will, together with another club man Mark Fabian, take the reins as the Swans look to return to their early season form. First up, following the postponement of the Met Police game, are Merstham FC. Three former Swans. Calum Willock. Tom Kavanagh and Reece Hall are currently at Moatside and would look to feature on Saturday. Merstham sit one place and one point above the Swans but have played 5 games more. The current form shows them with 6 games without a win and last time out secured a 2-2 draw with Grays Athletic having been 2 goals down. Expect a lively encounter on a wet pitch at Moatside.
The Swans welcome you all to come along and get behind the boys as we look to return to winning ways ... KO 3pm at Moatside.
Thrust into the spotlight at
Staines Town once again, interim manager
Martyn Spong has challenged the players to rediscover their form and get the club out of their present mess.
Club stalwart Spong, together with his assistant
Mark Fabian, have been handed the task of reviving spirits and results in the short term at the
Ryman Premier outfit with Swans having lost six out of their last seven league matches. That run resulted in
Nicky Forster resigning from the manager's job on Thursday (January 7) while assistant manager
Graham Abercrombie was sacked.
With the clash (January 9) at Harrow Borough postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Spong led training at Lucozade Power League Sunbury's impressive multi-million pound facility on a 5G surface.
And as he prepared the players for Tuesday's home league game against Met Police, Spong told Get Surrey: "I have already told Matthew (Boon, chairman) and Ken (Williams, vice chairman) that I'm not interested in doing the job as a permanent thing because it doesn't fit in even though I passionately want to be involved in the first team.
"I'm 62 and I think it's for someone a little bit younger to be taking it on but I'm happy to be involved if the club want me.
