Check In
Throughout the holiday season, take moments to ask yourself if you have any agenda as you give and receive that are not in integrity with the big you. If there is an agenda other than gratitude, find time to write down what those agendas are. Even if it is embarrassing to see them on paper, go for it. This is how we challenge ourselves and give ourselves the power of choice. It is a time for growth, not judgment. Just observe and care about yourself and what is going on inside you. It can be a loving way of closing the year.

Throughout my life, I have learned so much about giving and receiving. It sounds so simple, but it has layers and layers of meaning. And to these layers there are very powerful ways of moving towards the person we truly want to be.

I used to think giving and receiving was a beautiful exchange. I still see it that way. However now, I am keenly aware of the nuances we attach to it.

Are we giving to receive? Are we giving so that the other person will like us? Are we looking for approval? Hoping to be noticed? What is our true agenda in giving? If we have an outcome attached to giving, then we are not really giving. We are manipulating. We are giving from our heads and not from our hearts. We actually lose our power this way. It is a way of trying to get power, but it's not authentic power. It is a manipulation to try to make something happen.

There is More to All of This Than Meets the Eye.
By Ruddy who is on his way to self-mastery.

"I didn't realise how much I gave in order to get people to like me. I knew my self-worth was shaky, but didn't realize my generosity was attached to my ego. One of those humbling moments. I don't think we can grow unless we have an embarrassing or humbling moment! It helped to know that I am not alone.
