2015  National Specialty
Friday, October 2, 2015
After getting home, drying out and warming up, I wanted to recap some of the events of our GCA Specialty and the days surrounding it. While the weather could certainly have been better, it was still great seeing good greyhounds and visiting with greyhound people. Thank you to all who participated.

Greyhound Club of America National Specialty 2015

Congratulations to all of the winners of the 2015 National Specialty! It was wet, cold and windy but the faithful came and showed. I actually think things went very well. Our judges survived their assignments and even seemed to enjoy them despite the bitter cold. We sold sweatshirts, hoodies and umbrellas from our boutique. People stepped up to help move things along and everyone seemed to make the best of it all. Thanks to all who attended, helped and came to socialize and learn.

Junior Handlers at the Specialty
It was my intense pleasure to watch as the judge selected her final nine awards (BOB, BOW, BOS, SD,SB & 4 AOMs) that three of those winners were handled by some very competent Junior Handlers. Congratulations to Caitlyn Jewett for her bitch's BOS as well as Elizabeth Edgerton and Gavin Pugh for their AOMs on their bitches.

Judges's Education
The judge's education at the specialty was very well attended despite the foul weather. Several of our judges' mentors were kept busy with some wonderful questions and discussions through all the regular classes by eight to ten potential greyhound judges. Some even braved the rain and stood out of the tent to watch.

National Specialty Photos
The Greyhound Club of America is so blessed to have talented photographers in our ranks. On of those gifted artists, Lisa Stine, shot many remarkable photos of most of the entrants at the Specialty and at Morris & Essex.

Hatboro KC Results
The disclaimer here is that the Rau Dog Show site is extremely difficult to view results on.

Thank you to all helpers!
I would like to offer the heartfelt thanks of myself, the show chairman and the GCA Board for the incredible number of people, member and non-members who helped out throughout the specialty and the lure coursing despite the inclement weather. It made all the unloading and loading go so quickly and easily and helped the events proceed more smoothly.

Educational Program & Dinner

Education for Judge Presenters and Mentors
Pattie Clark presented an very informative and well organized presentation to the Judge's Presenters and Mentors. The materials that were compiled by our Judge's Education committee were distributed and poured over by the participants. Everyone at the sessions enjoyed learning and discussing with our Greyhound Parts transparencies. Very educational!

Bloat program
A very busy Pattie then presented a power point on the progression and findings to date of the Bloat Initiative. She did a great job of explaining and highlighting for us some of the most important parts of the study so far. We hope to get more information on this in the months to come through the GCA website and newsletter.
One of the important products of the Bloat Initiative is this video about bloat which Pattie felt all of us should watch to be aware of the signs of this deadly condition.

Lure Coursing

We had a small but mighty entry of lure coursers and the day was chilly but perfect for the running hounds. All entrants in the trial ran great courses and were a joy to watch.
Following the trial, we ran 58 Coursing Ability Tests with various other breeds, many of them terriers. Our entry was enhanced by the cancellation of the Devon Kennel Association Dog Shows. Left with not much to do, Some of those exhibitors stopped by to let their dogs run.
