Employees from hospitals, health centers and physician practices were honored for their critical role in improving the lives of pregnant women and their newborn babies at "
Delivering Our Future," the
Healthy Start Coalition of Miami Dade's
Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony held at Jungle Island earlier this month.
The awardees performance in delivering direct care to pregnant women and newborns - such as pre
natal and postnatal risk screening and providing new parent gift packs - have helped to lower the county's infant mortality rate to 4.5 percent, much lower than state and national averages.

Marcus Neuroscience Institute Names Director of Neurology
Officials at
Boca Raton Regional Hospital's
Marcus Neuroscience Institute (MNI) recently announced the appointment of
Patricio S. Espinosa, MD, MPH as Director of Neurology. He has been serving on the medical staff of MNI since December 2014.
In this capacity, Dr. Espinosa will lead the Institute's team of neurologists and offer specialized expertise in epilepsy and sleep disorders.

Larkin School of Nursing, based in South Miami, recently announced a new
Home Health Aide Program. This course prepares health care workers to care for patients in the home, focusing on communication and interpersonal skills, medical terminology, CPR certification, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Courses will be taught in English and Spanish.
La escuela de enfermería de Larkin está orgullosa de anunciar su nuevo programa de asistente de salud en el hogar. Este curso capacita a trabajadores de la salud en el cuidado de pacientes en el hogar, enfocándose en la comunicación y habilidades interpersonales, terminología médica, certificación RCP y mantenimiento de un ambiente limpio y saludable.
