LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Nicholas Unkovic BABC President & Partner
Dear Friend of the BABC,
First of all, I hope that you have all had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!
As we head into the fall, I'd like to do a recap of our activities over recent months as despite being typically slow during the vacation period, the BABC remained very busy, particularly planning and hosting the recent
The Rise of Rugby... A Giant Awakens at the
Fairmont Hotel on August 26th. It was a magnificent, major event that brought together not only the rugby-loving members among our community but also introduced us to many new members and potential members. For those that missed the event, I'm pleased to share the videos of our past and present, male and female international rugby legends who looked into the future of rugby in the United States as the world awaits the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup on September 18th.
Panel Session 1 and
Panel Session 2.
Huge thanks to all of you who supported the BABC and its Member sponsors by attending our most recent events. Beginning in April, we supported the
Oxford Alumni Network's Boat Race Ball celebration held at
Timothy Oulton as well as Raphael House's annual fundraiser,
A Grand Special Night of Magic . We held the "British Expats: Tax and Financial & Immigration Solutions You Need to Know" sponsored by
Florin Pensions,
E & M Visa and
Bank of the West and promoted
HSBCS's event hosted by
The San Francisco Business Times, "The Strengthening of the US Dollar's Impact on Business and Global Trade".
May brought on a slew of events starting with European Networking Evening kindly hosted by our Patron Member
Cooley. In conjunction with the
British Consulate, we celebrated the UK Elections with a viewing Party at the offices of
LoopUp and supported
BABC Pacific Northwest in promoting
their own rugby-focused event event up in Seattle, "American Football v. Rugby". Jo, Kathleen Kimura, Stuart Bagshaw, Simon Elliot and yours truly from our Board attended the BABC Transatlanti
c Conference in New York which was a great success. The BABC and Squire Patton Boggs presented A Fireside Chat with British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott
. June began with the
Young Professional Wine & Cheese Networking Event (our thanks to business member
The Wine Club), followed by the
Annual AACC, BABC, SACC - 5th Annual Golf Scramble, and
ended with the
Annual General Meeting. In preparation for the
Rise of Rugby, July events slowed down a little but with
GABA, we held "Trends in Content Monetization" and of course, the monthly Young Professionals Happy Hour which has a new home at Americano Bar & Retaurant in
Hotel Vitale. Our thanks to corporate member
Commune Hotels & Resorts.
Over the next couple of months, we continue to have a very full calendar of events and opportunities to connect with other members, all of which are highlighted in our
Events Calendar. I'd like to thank all who have been actively involved in creating these events and indeed a huge thanks to the event sponsors.
A very warm welcome to
Megan Dudley from the University of Birmingham who will be joined us on August 20
th to start her 9-month internship with
BABC and to
Oliver Corrigan who is joining Patron Member
BAB LEAP also for 9-months.
Finally, thank you to all the new members who have joined the BABC over the recent months and to all of our members showing their continued support of our growing organization by upgrading your memberships. Please take a moment to visit their websites and learn more! They may be able to help you!
Best, Nick Unkovic President of BABC Northern California

Are you a big fan of films, especially those from the UK?
Do you wish more British films found their way to San Francisco? If so, you might consider joining the board of the Mostly British Film Festival in San Francisco. The festival takes place for a week mid-February at the Vogue Theater. It is going into its eighth year of bringing the best cinema from English-speaking countries. We've screened "An Education," "London River," "The Lunchbox," "Route Irish," "Jimmy's Hall" and "Le Weekend" just to name a few. We have also brought as guests Malcolm McDowell, Minnie Driver and Michael York.
We are looking to increase our board. Membership means helping to scout for films from the UK, watching films under consideration and helping through social media to market the festival. We do not require financial contributions from members.
