Space is limited for many events so registration is required in most cases. All are welcome but LEA members will be given advanced sign up opportunity as well as free admission. Non-members will be charged a $5 fee. Some special events will have extra fees.
Native Plant Workshop
June 9, 1-4pm at Maine Lake Science Center

Hey do-it-yourselfers!  Join us at the Maine Lake Science Center to  learn about the benefits of using native plants to develop your landscape. Through a presentation, on-site evaluation, and planting demonstrations we will lead you down the path of native plants, one which you will want to continue exploring!  You will head home with a native plant list for varying site conditions and lots of ideas to get your planting going!  Free for members, $5 nonmembers. "A Morning with Watercolors" Watercolor Workshop
, June 11, 9-12 Maine Lake Science Center

Join local artist Lynn Driscoll as she teaches an informative cla ss on the basics of playing wet with the medium of watercolors .   F rom simple techniques on how to put the paint down on paper, to easy instruction on color mi xing with just a few pigments, Lynn will provide lots of demonstrations, and you will learn with every brushstroke! This class is free, and donations to the Maine Lake Science Center are greatly appreciated. While you are there, be sure to check out the beautiful print that Lynn donated to the center! Pre-registration is required, and class is limited to 18 participants. Also be on the lookout for other workshops by Lynn throughout the season!

Guided walk through your Guidebooks!
June 14, 9-12, Holt Pond

Ever get frustrated with your plant guide book, or have never used one before? Join LEA educator Alanna Doughty for a morning at Holt Pond working to identify wetland plant species along the boardwalk.  We will learn how to use several different guide books and practice identifying new and known species until we are feeling confident enough to take on any flora taxonomic challenge!  One book that we love is Newcomb's Wildflower Guide by Lawrence Newcomb- go see our friends at Bridgton Books to pick up a copy!  If you have a different guide, feel free to bring it!  It will be best if you have your own copy to practice with. We will have a couple on hand, and many different kinds to peruse. Tuesday, June 14 th , 9am-12. Free for LEA members, $5 non-members. Holt Pond Guided Family Walk
, June 17, 9-12, Holt Pond

A perfect way to ring in the summer! Lakes Environmental Educator and Naturalist Mary Jewett will introduce you and your family to the magic of Holt Pond. This amazing preserve right in our backyard provides us a unique opportunity to get up close to wetlands, a beaver house and dam, and a number of exciting animals and plants.  The big theme is getting outside together and having fun! Families are encouraged to bring cameras, binoculars, comfortable hiking attire, water and snacks for an exciting morning of discovery. Friday, June 17th, 9-12. Free for LEA members, $5 non-members. Nature Journal with Wendy Newcomb
June 20, 9-12 Maine Lake Science Center

Join Local Artist Wendy Newcomb at the MLSC and in Pondicherry
 Park to develop a Nature Journal. Tools of the trade, tips for sketching outdoors and guided sketch practice will help you develop your art of seeing and your artistry. The 1st of a 3 part series. We will send you a materials list and more information when you register. (Age 13 and up).  This workshop is $20 for members and $35 for non-members. Limited to 8 participants, so sign up early! Botanical Illustration with Lynn Driscoll
, June 25, 1-4, Maine Lake Science Center

You know those amazing botanical illustrations we all know and love? Join local artist Lynn Driscoll as she shares with you techniques to build your art of seeing, and create your own frame-worthy botanical art! Through examples, demonstration and hands-on time, you will go home with something beautiful and informative! Lynn will provide all the materials for the class, including the traditional hot-pressed paper used for botanical illustration.  $40 for members, $50 non-members.
