VNC Board Takes Action for Your Venice
|
VENICE - At Tuesday night's VNC Board of Officers meeting, your elected representatives considered issues ranging from sort-term rentals and Mello Act compliance to mandatory online voting for future Neighborhood Council elections.
Chaired by Vice President Marc Saltzberg, the Board thanked members of the Outreach Committee and recognized the efforts of Chairperson Sylvia Aroth and team leader Rob Dew for the success of the first annual
Green Venice Expo, held on February 28th at Mark Twain Middle School.
According to Aroth and Dew, some one thousand Venetians attended, meeting with environmental activists and vendors working to foster a Green Venice. A series of speakers, including activist/actor Ed Begley, Jr., addressed the passionate array of activists and supporters - which also included Venice local, Tree Man!
"We were very happy with the content as well as the attendance, and we plan to make this an annual event," noted Dew, to the applause of those in attendance.
A presentation by a subcommittee of the Land Use and Planning Committee (LUPC) discussed concerns about short-term rental housing and the effect it has on neighborhoods and affordable rentals here in Venice.

Sat., Mar. 21: Grunion Run on Venice Beach!

The grunion will be running Saturday night on Venice Beach by the breakwater rocks off Windward Avenue!
Fun for the whole family, this spring ritual occurs during the full and new moons. Grunion are the object of a unique recreational fishery. These fish are famous for their remarkable spawning behavior, which evokes an "I don't believe it!" response from people seeing or hearing about it for the first time.

Free of charge, and taking place every first Friday, the Electronic Recycling Solutions Truck will be onsite at the Venice Farmers' Market, 7:00A.M. - 11:00 A.M., 500 N. Venice Blvd. Venice, CA 90291.
The program has been initiated by the Venice Neighborhood Council, and its Environmental Committee.

Drive is happening again and is endorsed by the VNC and Assemblywoman Autumn Burke.
Last year, more than three thousand diapers were collected for local agencies to distribute to families in need. CCTD is hoping to double that this time!

Also, CCTD is in need of boxes for collection sites. So if you have any large boxes, this is a great way to recycle them.
