It's Your Venice -- Get Involved!
Green Venice Expo Brings Sustainable Mandate to Venice
Saturday's Green Venice Expo, a VNC Town Hall, brought together speakers, performers, exhibitors and over a thousand visitors for a memorable day of sharing progress and tools to achieve sustainable living in our community.

Under the leadership of Outreach Committee Chair Sylvia Aroth and event "Greenmaster" Rob Dew, committee members and volunteers worked tirelessly for more than three months to assemble what VNC President Mike Newhouse called  "the  best VNC event I've ever seen!"

Thirty green exhibitors participated, ranging from Tesla, with two brand new Model S P85Ds for test rides, to Occupy Venice, who picked up the event's leftover food to feed the disadvantaged in our community.   Exhibits included DWP's solar trailer powering the entire event, electric bikes to test ride, eco activities for the little ones, terrific garden tips and enhancements, solar panels, solar thermal, tree giveaways, and more.   "So many great interactive activities" observed Matt Kline, former VNC Outreach Officer.

In addition to the outdoor exhibits, speakers and a singer/pianist inspired audiences in the auditorium from 1pm to 6pm.   Rob Dew introduced kickoff speaker David King from the Venice Learning Garden, followed by Tree People's Andy Lipkis, who began re-treeing Los Angeles when he was 15 years old and has  influenced DWP to pursue environmentally sound practices.   Eight additional  acclaimed speakers educated and entertained attendees with wraparound talks about challenges, hope and practical direction for the future.   Celebrity actor and green activist, Ed Begley, Jr., ended the day with a call to action to us all.   All speeches can be viewed on the VNC website, VeniceNC.org/Green-Venice-Expo.

Delicious free food was provided by Superba Food + Bread, Venice Ale House, and Hal's Bar and Grill.  Whole Foods Market provided a brilliant speaker, reusable bags and snacks as well.

Call for Artists - Power of Art

Attention Artists! We would like you to be a part of the largest art project in the history of Los Angeles, Power of Art. We are physically turning LA into the largest art gallery in the world and we would be honored if you submitted your work for consideration.

For centuries, artists have been pushed to the side, disrespected and taken advantage of for their talent. This is especially true in Los Angeles. But enough is enough. It is time to bring opportunity to artists and bring them out of the shadows.

Power of Art is unveiling LA's soul in the streets. We have successfully fought to secure mural access to over 4,000 signal boxes in Los Angeles.

Why a Beach Supervisor?

From Marc Saltzberg, VNC Vice President

At the VNC's last Board Meeting a motion was approved that stated:

The Venice Neighborhood Council recommends that the Mayor include in the proposed 2015-2016 City Budget he sends to City Council a line item in the Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP) Budget for a "Superintendent of Venice Beach Park" as suggested by RAP.

I've been asked about this several times and wanted to answer a few of the questions I've received:

  • Why do we need a Superintendent for Venice Beach Park?
  • How does the concept of a Superintendent for Venice Beach Park forward this vision?
  • How will budgeting for the position of a Superintendent for Venice Beach Park proceed?

To review these issues, please select this link:   Venice Beach Park Superintendent
