Margaret Thoman, RN
has been a very committed volunteer at Katallasso for a long time now.  She does a great job caring for our clients in a way that makes God proud to call her one of His own.  Margaret spent 24 years as an RN in the United States Air Force.  She retired and then spent 16 years at York Hospital in hospice and palliative care.  She enjoys animals and volunteering in many areas of her church in Glen Rock.   She is a BIG asset to us here at Katallasso!

Margaret, we are so thankful that folks like you walk out their faith here at Katallasso!

Culture of Excellence
...a step to the next level

Newly Designed Website

Be sure to check out Katallasso's new website. It is a great new look and is very informative and helpful! Our new site has a lot of our original information but now you can view pictures of our Board along with a short profile of each, you
can look at the newsletter archives to see how we have grown, of course you can donate online and you can even schedule an appointment or sign up to volunteer.  There are tons of pictures and you can even watch video client testimonials of how their lives have been impacted by Katallasso.  There is so much more!!!  Click here to take a look at the new site or go to:

Intake Interviews

Part of the COE effort was the development of an intake process to include an intake interview before the patient's first visit. The center has now established a process that requires a new patient to make an intake appointment in order to complete all of the necessary paperwork and answer any questions or concerns they may have.  We call it the "first date" of our relationship.  At the same time the intake appointment is set up, the office also Female Student Talking To High School Counselor sets up an appointment with one of our providers for the new patient. Much of the information from the intake interview is then entered into the clients electronic medical record which makes the first visit much more pleasant and efficient.  But there's more....we are also gathering non-medical information in order to start to develop a solid relationship with our client.  This information is not only used to get to know the particular client but the information is entered into our new statistical system that helps us to know our client base better so we can make wiser decisions concerning expansion.

Excellence in Board Governance

Who enjoys Board Governance?  Not a lot of people.  Recognizing the need for strong Board Governance, Katallasso has expanded its Board to include some near experts on this topic.  In late 2014 Leadership York was asked to present a Business man giving presentation on a laptop to group of colleagues workshop on the topic to our Board and now we have hired an outside consultant to facilitate a Board retreat in mid April. There are tons of great things happening at Katallasso and we just know that God wants us to expand the ministry.  Our strong Board will be guiding this with great wisdom, faith and expertise while continually striving for excellence!

Increase in Patient Volume

You may remember that we ended the year 2014 with an appointment wait list of 5-6 weeks which was consistent for over a year.  Our Board stepped Doctor Examining Male Patient With Hip Pain out in faith and hired a provider for 1 day per week.  Duane started in mid January and for the first quarter of this year our patient volume has nearly doubled by this one move.  Our wait time is down to around 2 weeks.  We could not do this without our great volunteers and the continual financial support you give us.

The need was great and Katallasso responded!

Development/Fund Raising Committee

Katallasso is looking for volunteers to fill some spots on the Fundraising/ Development Committee.

Fundraising/Development is not necessarily asking all of your friends and family for donations.  We need idea people and people that are willing to help as fundraising assistants and event planners.

We are also forming a prayer group for the center that will meet on a regular basis.  Are any of these committees/groups "your thing"? We could really use your help or do you know someone that would fit right in?

Please contact Brian at [email protected] if you are able to help in this effort.

Impact of the Quarter

(from the desk of medical director Duane Furman)

Recently a friend of Katallasso referred a gentleman to the center for care. This friend had been ministering to a particular gentleman that was incarcerated at York County Prison. During his stay at the prison, the friend reached out to the gentleman and ministered directly to him. They had truly built a close relationship as the love of Christ was poured out upon the inmate through this friend. Unfortunately, the inmate had incidentally cut himself while shaving his face. The prison healthcare team treated the man with antibiotic therapy out of concern for infection. Over the next 5 weeks, the area on his face progressed and he developed a significant painful rash on his entire body with intense body aches. The prison appropriately adjusted his medication to another choice with the addition of further medications with some mild to moderate improvement.

As the time passed, the gentleman showed some improvement but not full resolution of the symptoms. I received a call from my friend inquiring if Katallasso could see the patient after his upcoming release date from the prison. He explained that the man has no insurance, is seeking a place to stay and that he had been spending a lot of time sharing the truths of the word of God with him. The man was hungry for the truth and to be loved without the judgment of others.

I had the privilege of meeting this gentleman at his first appointment at Katallasso and subsequent follow up examinations. He spoke of his gratefulness for the prison care team trying to assist him and his appreciation that Katallasso could see him so quickly when others may not have. After examining the gentleman, a diagnosis was supported that the healthcare team at the prison had initiated. The patient's treatment plan was able to be adjusted a bit and continued to appropriately treat his condition. Over the past several weeks during follow up examinations, his condition has resolved!

As excited as I was for him, he was more excited about the love that he received at the clinic. So much so, that I received a phone call from my friend that shared how much the time at Katallasso impacted the patient. The patient could not believe how he was treated by the entire team at Katallasso. He felt that everyone from the staff to the provider really showed a love for him that blew him away. He was taken aback by how he was treated as he was expecting a typical "free" clinic and instead found Katallasso! He felt that our interest was not just about his health but about him as a person. My friend also commented on how special it is that we have joined him and his family to live missionaly for Jesus through a man that they have grown to love and consider a part of their own family. The greater news is that the gentleman continues to thirst, grow and seek a relationship with God!

What a joy to see how Katallasso is reaching beyond healthcare to impact the lives of people for the Kingdom of God.
