On Tuesday, December 8th 2015, Pope Francis commenced the Jubilee Year of Mercy in the Catholic Church.
It is a special time of grace, which invites the entire human family to ponder upon the mercy of God made visible to all of us in the life and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis encourages us, to pray with intensity, to be spiritually renewed, to forgive others in our lives and if necessaryto ask forgiveness from others, to be constantly open to the gift of Divine Mercy in our lives, and to practice the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy* on a daily basis.
The experience of God's mercy becomes especially visible through concrete deeds that we are called to undertake as faithful followers of Christ, whose entire life has been the example of the Father's merciful reaching out to the wandering humanity. Its pivotal moment, the climax of God's mercy for humanity, took place during the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord. From this, the river of grace continues to flow on throughout the centuries, especially through the celebration of the Eucharist and other sacraments.
The celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy will end on November 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. May this sacred time of grace inspire us to listen more carefully to God's loving words, to accept God's transforming mercy into our lives, and to make an effort to become the apostles of Divine Mercy in our families, communities, cities, countries, and the world.
Fr. Wojciech Oleksy
