Boca Raton based Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant (EMA), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, announced its CEO and Co-founder Daniel Cane has been recognized as the Technology Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Miami Chamber announced the winners of its annual Technology Leaders of the Year Awards at Jungle Island on Tuesday, April 28.

"I am honored to be named the Technology Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce," said Cane. "I share this honor with my Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Michael Sherling, as well as the entire dedicated team at Modernizing Medicine who continue to drive our success. We have experienced tremendous growth over the past five years and I'm looking forward to the work that lies ahead both for the company and the South Florida tech community."

The Technology Leaders of the Year Awards highlight individuals and organizations with extraordinary technological hands-on experience whose management of technology resources and/or technological innovations have made outstanding contributions to their organization and the community.

Physicians at the Miami Transplant Institute (MTI) at the UHealth/Jackson Memorial Medical Center hit a milestone performing the first four-way paired kidney exchange transplant in Florida. The simultaneous surgeries, which involved four donors and four recipients took place on April 9, and was made possible through the highly recognized Paired Kidney Exchange Program-the only initiative of its kind in the region.

"It is the heart and soul of the kidney program because it generates the best results," said Giselle Guerra, MD, Medical Director of the Living Donor Kidney Program. "The patients do not have to linger on a waiting list; and it lessens the amount of time a patient needs to be on dialysis because they can be transplanted at any point with a living donor."
