Peter's Tour Diary

Greetings!

Since my last newsletter I reunited with Al Stewart and played a show with him in Laughlin Nevada. When I started my professional career in the 70s, it was with his band, and It was fun to play the old songs and enjoy his sense of humor again! The following week I flew to Philadelphia to play at Penn's Landing, a free show put on by the city of Philadelphia. Euge Groove and Richard Elliot and I playing in the open air in a show we call Jazz Attack. A lovely warm evening- perfect for an outdoor show.

Soon after, I had my first visit to Muskegon, Michigan performing a show with Euge Groove at the 2nd annual Shoreline Jazz Festival. Thanks to musician, broadcaster and all-around good guy Alexander Zonjic for always coming up with new venues and putting on this great event! The next week, it was Copper Mountain, Colorado for the Genuine Wine and Jazz Festival. It was nice to see so many fellow musicians- Brian Simpson, Paul Taylor, Kim Waters, Nick Colionne and Marc Antoine and perform in this wonderful scenic spot in the mountains.

Apart from a very brief appearance in Cabo Wabo during the Smooth Jazz Cruise in 2006, I have not played south of the border, so it was great to finally do my first ever full-length show in Mexico at the 1st annual Cancun Smooth Jazz Festival. I met some wonderful people there including a family of smooth jazz fans from Mexico City who were thrilled to see a smooth jazz concert in their country. The festival was held at the Hard Rock Resort, just South of Cancun where even the drinks were on the house as part of the admission fee! So many friends there- Rick Braun, Dave Koz, Euge Groove, Keiko Matsui, Paul Taylor, Elan Trotman, Tim Bowman, Nick Colionne, Kenny Lattimore, Boney James, Brian Culbertson and many more. I'm scheduled again for next year- looking forward to it!

The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach- I've been playing at this venue now for 20 years and it's always a joy. A Jazz Attack show with Euge Groove and Richard Elliot under the twinkling stars - what could be better! We had the pleasure of playing there just last weekend and had a blast, and then the very next day I reunited with my buddies Michael Paulo, Gregg Karukas, Nate Phillips and Eric Valentine to play a 2-hour PW show at the Aliante Casino and Resort in North Las Vegas which included selections from my entire musical history- I even played a song I wrote with Al Stewart in 1978, "Time Passages". We also played new releases from both Gregg and Michael and the show included some solo guitar pieces so as to give the band a break. We ended with Michael Paulo's version of the hit song "Happy".

In my down time I've been working on putting together a live album of my Christmas show with Mindi Abair and Rick Braun- more about that soon! Also, in between all these activities I found time to see some of my favourite classic bands at the Los Angeles County Fair- Kool & The Gang, The Ohio Players, ZZ Top, Chicago and Boz Skaggs- I had a wonderful time watching these great shows as an audience member. Now I have a few days off but there are a lot of shows coming up soon including England in November and then my Christmas tour.

I'll see you all out there!

Promenade to Jakarta
Peter White and Michael Paulo at Java Jazz Festival

Established in 2005, the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia is one of the largest and most prestigious festivals in the world. The first festival was attended by 47,500 visitors during its three-day stretch and has grown every year since.

Peter performed at Java Jazz Festival in 2006. Below is a video clip from that show playing "Promenade", one of Peter's most recognizable and popular songs.
Where did Peter get his inspiration for it? The idea came to him in 1992 while in a taxi cab in London traveling from the airport to his brother Danny's house.

With Michael Paulo (sax), Kimo Cornwell (keys), Smitty Smith (bass), Ray Fuller (gtr), Sergio Gonzalez (drums) and Lenny Castro (perc).
