ALIGNMENT ROCKFORD NEWS
NOVEMBER 2015

Rockford has been named the nation's third Model Community by Ford Next Generation Learning for having successfully launched career academies at all RPS205 high schools, featuring career pathways such as Engineering, Information Technology, Law & Public Safety and Medical & Health Sciences.

" The College & Career Academies of Rockford are an outstanding example of how educators and community members can organize and align their resources in support of a strong plan to implement high school career academies," said Cheryl Carrier, Executive Director of Ford NGL for Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services.  "Their goal of reaching "Model" status by 2016 was certainly surpassed!  Congratulations to this amazing community and their students."

As a Ford NGL Model Community, Rockford will be an example for educators in Ford NGL communities across the country, offering educational visits and workshops on how to transform their high schools and better prepare students for college, career and life.   Rockford hosted its first Ford NGL Academies of Rockford Study Visit October 19-20 with 40 people attending from five communities.

2015 ACADEMY EXPO
$80,000 value in volunteer hours!

October 15th was Alignment Rockford's fourth annual Academy Expo, a regional career exploration event for high school freshmen. The Academy Expo was designed by Alignment Rockford to serve as the introductory experience to the academy structure for Rockford Public School freshmen.  The event assists students in making an informed academy selection prior to their sophomore year. This is also an opportunity for other school districts in attendance to explore career opportunities. At the Academy Expo participating students experience career-related, hands-on demonstrations in a broad variety of careers which helps to forge a relevant link between curriculum and careers.
