Councillor Fonseca's E-Update
STORM WARNING IN AFFECT

Conservation Halton and the TRCA is advising that Environment Canada Weather Office is forecasting a low pressure system associated with the remnants of Hurricane Patricia which will be moving into the Great Lakes region in the early morning tomorrow.  The system is expected to bring significant rainfall along with strong and gusty winds over the next couple of days.  Heavier rainfall is expected Wednesday morning through to the afternoon. Latest indications suggest 25 to 40 mm of rain in most areas with locally higher amounts of 40 to 50 mm possible, especially near Lakes Erie and Ontario. There is also the possibility of convective cells within the storm which could add an additional 10-20 mm in isolated locations.

The forecasted rainfall will result in higher than normal water levels and flows in all our streams and creeks, resulting in dangerous flow conditions.  While no flooding is anticipated, watercourses will be flowing higher than normal causing local streams and creeks to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. It is being recommended that all residents and children stay away from all watercourses and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams.  Elevated water levels, fast flowing water, and slippery conditions along stream banks continue to make these locations extremely dangerous.  Please alert children in your care of these imminent dangers.

Tree Planting to Celebrate Waste Reduction Week

The Region of Peel celebrated Waste Reduction Week ( October 19-25) and the significant effort residents have put into participating in the Region's Blue Box Program, by planting a tree that symbolizes the 14 million that have been saved by recycling newspaper.

I want to commend residents for their ongoing efforts and parti cipation in the Blue Box Program; currently 85 percent of curbside households consistently put out a blue box for pick up.

Residents are currently doing a great job of participating in the Program but Waste Reduction Week is a perfect opportunity to strive to achieve higher recycling targets and participation in Peel.

You can help them win by voting for their video at:  http://ngb.org/vote/.  You can vote as many times as you like, but you are limited to only one vote per day.   Voting closes on October 31.
