Spring SBC Updates
Sierra Business Council April 2015

April is one of the most beautiful times to be in the Sierra - the crowds are light, the creeks are running, and the daffodils are out in full force.

Such springtime reflection is motivation for us at SBC for the work we're doing in the region - helping small businesses do good for themselves and their communities, finding best practices for the region to adapt to and mitigate climate change, and promoting unique Sierra destinations through Geotourism, just to name a few.

It's also a time when we're reminded that our work in the Sierra can't happen without you, which is why we're asking you to remember May 5th as the day to make a contribution to SBC. Read on below for updates on our variety of efforts in fostering a thriving region, and please help us do good by donating on the BIG Day of Giving, May 5th.
May 5th's The Big Day of Giving

We want to graciously remind you that May 5th is the BIG Day of Giving. Rather than doing a twice-yearly mailing ask, SBC is going electronic and asking you to participate in this huge and historic event for our region, the BIG Day of Giving. Over one 24 hour period, SBC will join with 500 other nonprofits in an effort to raise $5 million and make our region #1 as the most generous community in the country on this national day of giving.

On the BIG Day of Giving, each donation is matched on a prorated basis, making every gift go farther. Challenge prizes are also available for nonprofits to win, allowing SBC the chance to earn even more.

Your donation of any amount will help SBC continue to foster thriving communities and a healthy environment in the Sierra Nevada.

Help us spread the word and stay tuned for more details as this exciting event approaches! Learn more about how your support on May 5th will go farther by clicking here.

Sierra CAMP Update

The Sierra Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Partnership (Sierra CAMP) has been quite busy in the past few months working on finalizing the Governance Policy, developing Climate Solutions University, initiating fundraising mechanisms, and of course, closely following the California drought along with the implementation of Cap and Trade and the Water Bond.

There's been so much going on, in fact, that Sierra CAMP sent out a full update to their immediate network. SBC wants to be sure that our supporters across the region have full access to this impressively expanding program, as well as the opportunity to become a part of the  active  CAMP network. Click here for the full CAMP update, and sign up on the Sierra CAMP website to become a part of the CAMP network.

Sierra Nevada Geotourism - Nominations Updates

Have you nominated a destination for the Sierra Nevada Geotourism
webmap in the past? If so, have you checked on it recently? It may need to be updated!

The Sierra Nevada Geotourism web map features over 2,000 off-the-beaten-path destinations unique to the Sierra, making it a remarkable travel tool for residents and visitors to the region alike. The project does, however, rely on those with local knowledge to nominate destinations and update them when necessary - for instance, when a date changes for an event, a restaurant moves locations, or if a business has added a new attraction.

If you've made a nomination in the past and would like to continue to support the Sierra Nevada Geotourism project, please sign in and review the destination page for any necessary changes, it'd be a huge help to the project!

And if you haven't nominated a destination for the Sierra Nevada Geotourism web map, what are you waiting for? Support and drive visitors to your favorite local treasures by creating a destination page today, we promise they'll thank you for it!
