Message From Lorraine and Meg

Hello!

After months of preparation, it's time for me to retire. In a few days, I will be finished with my
work here at the CLF. It's exciting and scary and I'm looking forward to the new adventure. And glory be, I will be in charge of my schedule.

I will miss my friends and co-workers, of course. I will miss talking with members and friends, getting to know you, hearing your stories, helping you find your way through the websites. I have been inspired pretty much every day here at the CLF. The energy and creativity that the CLF staff bring and share is amazing. The Revs. Meg Riley and Jane Rzepka, with their talent and vision have created, with the help of staff and volunteers, programs that change lives. The Prison Ministry, with its 600 incarcerated members, brings the saving UU message to those who have no reason to expect acceptance, love, worth and dignity.
Who wouldn't be inspired?

We carry the flame of Unitarian Universalism; we find and share the courage to act. We are the coolest church ever! I wish you all laughter and love. Farewell and carry the flame!

Dear Friends,
Portrait of Rev Meg
Finally my bubble of denial has broken. I really believe that Lorraine Dennison, our Executive Director for the past fifteen years, is leaving. We will be celebrating her as our worship services this week on Sunday at 8:00pm ET and Monday at 2:00pm ET.

As she leaves I vacillate between wanting her to have a fabulous, serene, exciting, adventurous, love filled life after CLF and wanting to pin her down and Xerox her brain. We know that her brain is just the start. Her heart, her spirit, her indomitable willingness to get the work done will be sorely missed. If I start thinking about missing her laughter and her propensity to burst into song, I start to cry. So I'll stop and give her space to say goodbye. I hope to see you Sunday night or Monday

Yours,

PS. As we re-gather in worship on September 13 we'd like to celebrate a virtual water communion by sharing pictures of a body of water near us, or a body of water that we visited in July or August. Please send your pictures of water and where it's from to Bob LaVallee atblavallee@clfuu.org by no later than September 7th.

RE Create
We're getting to that time of year when kids are heading back to school. Whether you're a parent or a child, and whether it's a time of celebration or woe, it's still a significant marker in the year. Many children will be heading off to school with a new backpack full of supplies like pencils, crayons and paper. But you may want to pack those shiny new backpacks with something less tangible, but just as important-values.

As you're packing up supplies for the new year, you might want to talk with your child about what else they want to carry with them into the school year: curiosity, patience, excitement,  open-mindedness, questioning, friendship, kindness toward others and a spirit of exploration are just a few possibilities. You might even want to imagine various parts of the school day-circle time, recess, reading time, assembly, library time, etc.-and ask your child what attitude or values they would like to pack to bring into that part of the school day.

Whether you carry a backpack, a briefcase, a laptop or a portfolio, you are always carrying with you far more than the concrete tools of your trade. What values will you pack to take with you?
