Chapter Spotlight: Students of AMF at UGA to Spread Love with "Free Hugs" Service Project

In the age of social disconnect and lack of human contact, a little act of kindness can really have an impact on a person's life.

That is why last year, Students of AMF at UGA started an event based on the Pay it Forward Foundation and the Free Hugs Campaign. If you want more information about the "Free Hugs Campaign", you can watch the Official video by clicking here

The mission of this event is to raise awareness about grief affecting college students coping with the illness or death of a loved one and to brighten the outlook of the community in general. The hugs are meant to be random acts of kindness. Last year, we passed out challenge cards to challenge people to do a simple act of kindness for someone such as: "Smile at someone today" or "Pay for someone's coffee in front of you." We also passed out free hugs and kisses candies. It was a great success and we sensed that people gained an awareness of what Actively Moving Forward stands for through the event.

This year, the UGA Chapter will be adding a component to the Free Hugs event by having a Valentine's Day-themed Bake Sale. All proceeds will be going to Nuci's Space in Downtown Athens, where they hold their support groups.

This event will be held on Friday, February 14th from 1130-5:00PM on UGA's Campus.

Dealing with Grief: A Column by AMF at UPenn Co-President

The Co-President of Students of AMF Support Network at UPenn, Melanie Wolff, wrote a thoughtful and helpful article about losing a loved one that was recently published in the Penn student newspaper. Sadly,  she wrote this following three recent student deaths on campus. To read the article, click here.
