WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. economy generated another month of solid hiring in November, making it highly likely that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates from record lows this month.
The Labor Department said Friday that employers added 211,000 jobs, led by big gains in construction and retail. And the government revised up its estimated job growth for September and October by a combined 35,000.
The unemployment rate remained a low 5 percent for a second straight month. More Americans began looking for jobs in November, and most found them. Read more>>

Kitsap Bank has been named Family Business of the Year by Seattle Business Magazine. The magazine honored the impact and legacy of Washington State's top family-run companies at the 2015 Family Business Awards Tuesday evening at Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle. Runners up for this award in the Large Firm category included McLendon Hardware and Mutual Materials. Thirteen firms from around the state were recognized for outstanding achievements in family business. Each of the firms aims to expand their business, while also serving their communities.
Energy costs are 30% below the national average and second lowest in the U.S. The outlook is bright with household incomes projected to increase at the second fastest rate through 2019.

Silverdale Harrison project aiming for 2019 opening
KITSAP -
Harrison Medical Center provided a preview of what its expanded Silverdale campus might look like, and also indicated its plans for a downtown Bremerton campus, during a presentation to the Central Kitsap Community Council Nov. 19.

Alvarez, executive director, support services for Harrison Medical Center, said Harrison was finished with the "concept" design, which called for the Silverdale campus to be flexible and efficient and a "reset" of how healthcare in Kitsap was delivered, with modernized facilities for both the hospital and for ambulatory care. The library finalized the purchase of the 1.4-acre site at Bucklin Hill Road and Blaine Avenue on Wednesday, just before Thanksgiving Day, thanks to two large donations.
The First Federal Community Foundation donated $100,000, while an anonymous Bainbridge Islander donated $750,000, according to Mark Hughes, library spokesman.
Library officials have been discussing plans to replace the Silverdale branch for years. While the community and branch's patron base have grown, the library's building has reached the point it cannot expand at the current site in Old Town Silverdale.

Kitsap retail sales jumped 11 percent in second quarter
Taxable retail sales in Kitsap County took a big jump in the second quarter of 2015, increasing 11 percent from the same quarter of 2014.
That was the largest year-over-year jump in quarterly sales for the county since the start of the recession.
Sales totaled more than $963 million in the second quarter, according to the
Department of Revenue. Statewide, retail sales reached $33.9 billion, marking a 9.4 percent increase from the same quarter of 2014. Read more>>

2015 was a solid year for our local and regional economy.
Last year: employment levels reached an eight year high; wages rose; manufacturing output reached new highs; the commercial real estate market was very active; home prices appreciated; new business formations increased; retail sales were strong; tourism enjoyed a significant rebound; healthcare expanded, intellectual property development advanced; and, the core of Kitsap's economy - the Defense & Military Sector - grew stronger as implications of sequestration subsided, and Navy Base Kitsap's Mission was strengthened.
