Thanks to everyone who joined us on a beautiful fall day for the 24th Annual Towpath Marathon!

Nearly 2000 runners from 33 states, Canada, Mexico and Germany came out to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park for a romp on the Towpath Trail.

The Towpath Trilogy Race Series raises funds to help Canalway Partners to further develop the Towpath Trail and the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area.

Congratulations to the runners that conquered the 2015 Towpath Trilogy, that is they  completed a race in each of the three 2015 Towpath Trilogy events.

This year, for the first time, runners that completed the Towpath Trilogy received a "I Conquered the Towpath Trilogy" mug and a complimentary beer thanks to our friends at Great Lakes Brewing.

Congratulations to the Historic Gateway Neighborhood Corporation which received a  2015 Public Education and Awareness Award from the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office for its Take a Hike Program.

According to the State Historic Preservation Office:

"The role of historic tax credits and other preservation tools is often emphasized since many of the current developments would not have been possible without these tools and a strong historic preservation ethic.  Judging from attendee feedback, the tours increase understanding and appreciation of Cleveland's history, historic preservation efforts, and potential for future adaptive re-use projects."

Take a Hike tours help to bring history to life by featuring actors portraying historic figures important to the history of Cleveland.

Take a Hike has been extended this season until December 12th. Every Saturday, a tour of Historic Euclid Avenue will be offered. Meet at 10 AM in the Arcade (401 Euclid Avenue) to enjoy a tour that combines portions of the summer Gateway District and Playhouse Square tours.

The tour will last approximately 1.5 hours in length and feature the portrayal of historic figures such as Frances Payne Bolton, Alan Freed, Milton Krantz, Garrett Morgan and Mayor Tom Johnson. Enjoy learning about the Arcade, the 5th Street Arcades, the 9, the Statler Arms, the Playhouse Square neighborhood and the GE Chandelier.

Canalway Partners recently participated in a Byway Leadership training session for the  National Scenic Byway Foundation.

Executive Director Tim Donovan and Ohio & Erie Canalway Marketing Director Katie Montgomery presented on how we manage and market the Ohio & Erie Canalway  America's Byway

The class then went out into the field to explore sites along the Byway including the  Steel Heritage CenterScranton Flats and  Canal Basin Park.

Perhaps you have seen signage for the Byway, on West 25th Street or in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The byway is signed with route markers that provide directions to follow the Byway through the 110-mile  Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area . Nationally designated by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, an America's Byway generally provides a route connecting key cultural, historic, recreational and natural sites of interest.

The National Scenic Byway Foundation is a nonprofit that provides "tools, training, and support for byway leaders" and aids in the completion of projects that might not otherwise be accomplished by Federal Highway Administration and byway organizations throughout the nation.

Not all fact-finding missions need to go abroad..
On September 12th, Senator Rob Portman was in Cleveland and took a ride on the Towpath Trail and explored the Cleveland Metroparks  Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

The management of Canalway Partners, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the  Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition were on hand to discuss some of the successes and challenges in developing the  Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area.
