SoCal T*Camp brings together trans/genderqueer and gender questioning students for an exciting intercampus retreat in January 2016. Both undergraduates and graduates who are currently enrolled are welcome to apply. Retreat pioneers will notify you in November if you have been selected to attend. The UCSD LGBT Resource Center will work
with you to cover fees and transportation.

Jennicet Gutiérrez Lecture at UC San Diego

Jennicet Gutiérrez is an undocumented transgender activist and organizer from Mexico. She currently resides in Los Angeles and she is an organizer with Familia: Trans Queer Liberation Movement. Jennicet believes in the importance of uplifting and centering the voices of trans women of color in all racial justice work. Her recent interruption of President Obama at the White House has brought visibility to the torture and violence trans undocumented women are facing inside detention centers. Jennicet will continue to organize in order to end the deportation, incarceration and criminalization of immigrants and all people of color.

| New Accountability Dashboards - Important Stats
The UCSD Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion has launched the UC San Diego Accountability Dashboards. The Dashboards present demographic data of UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students. They're designed to help guide the university in tracking and sharing its progress, as well as strategically focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Understanding this data is critical for the university to assess strengths and weaknesses in the realms of access, recruitment, retention, and success, and having this information publicly makes the university more transparent and accountable.
This is the first version. Comments, questions, or feedback of any kind is welcome at

New Free App to Find LGBT Roommates: TUTUroomii
A UCSD team recently launched a new iOS app called TUTUroomii. This app is designed to help LGBTQ+ young people and allies find ideal roommates in their own community.
The functionality of the app enables customers to search for both roommates and available housing resources based on personal preferences. It also provides a chat platform to enable deeper communication between potential roommates, to better ensure compatibility. Even for people not currently in need of roommates, this app could be a useful way to make new friends in your community.
TUTUroomii is entirely free, and available now in the App Store.

Día de los Muertos Festival at the Raza Resource Centro
Oct. 30th | 4:30-6:30pm
Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated throughout Latin America that commemorates departed loved ones. This celebration will be a joyful event with live entertainment, cultural cuisine, sugar skulls, ballet folklorico, face painting, film screenings, papel picado, a community altar, and other surprises!
The Raza Resource Centro at UC San Diego will be hosting a month-long series of events and workshops, including a weekly Cine de Calavera every Friday during October and a Festival on Friday, October 30th to conclude this beautiful remembrance of life.
The Raza Resource Centro cordially invites the UC San Diego community to join the Mes de Celebración. Our events and workshops will highlight how diverse Día de los Muertos is honored across North, Central, and South America via interactive activities, historical context, and tradition and custom.

National Competitive Scholarship Info Session

The Academic Enrichment Programs (AEP) of UCSD are holding an info session about competitive scholarships, such as the Rhodes and Fulbright Fellowships.
These scholarships and fellowships span the range of majors, and include opportunities for both continuing and graduating students. Scholarships topics include public service, graduate study, international experiences, and research. Students who are typically under-represented in these types of scholarships, are highly encouraged to attend and apply! We want to work towards full representation of all types of students in these competitions.

Ellie's Garden Harvest Day

Ellie's Garden, located between Africa Hall & Asia Hall
The student organization Ellie's Garden at ERC is making a meal, open to the whole community. It will be cooked from fresh ingredients, some of them grown in the garden on campus. This vegetarian dinner will include a couscous dish, a caprese salad with sorrel, caramelized sweet potatoes, and herb-infused water. It will be vegetarian and sustainable.
Part of the mission of Ellie's Garden is to grow food, to connect people to nature, to create a sense of community, and to try to live a more sustainable life.

Mkubwa and Mdogo Program
Deadline: Nov. 3rd
Mkubwa and Mdogo are Swahili words that mean 'big' and 'little'. This program was created this year in order for black students to share knowledge and insight, while gaining community and a support system at UCSD. You can find your mkubwa or mdogo by applying to the Mkubwa and Mdogo Mentorship Program!

CARE at SARC Violence Prevention Initiative
CARE at SARC (Sexual Assault Resource Center) is developing a campus wide violence prevention initiative and wants student input. Are you interested in sharing your thoughts and suggestions about how students engage with the issue of preventing sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking? African-American Studies Minor Upcoming Courses
For students who are interested in the intersection of history, culture, and the African American experience, the African American Studies Minor could be a perfect fit.
The African American Studies Minor has a list of courses that will be coming up in the Winter and Spring that could count toward the minor, including but not limited to CGS 150: "Visuality, Sexuality and Race" and ETHN 183: "Gender, Race, Ethnicity and Class."

There will be cash prizes up to $1,000 for taking the survey, and the event will be a good chance to meet other gender non-conforming youth.

Robert Giard Fellowship

Thinking Gender

Submissions are open for the graduate student research conference on the topic of Spatial Awareness, Representation, and Gendered Spaces. Submissions can include papers, posters, panels, and films, as long as they engage with the politics of gender, race, sexuality, and space. Opportunity to Urge Gov. Brown to support AB 959
AB 959 would ensure that sexual orientation and gender identity data would be collected along with other important demographic information used to determine state policies and funding. A petition is circulating in favor of AB 959, to increase out visibility in state policies.

Lesbian Body Image Survey
The Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville is doing a study on lesbian attitudes & feelings about your own body,gender identity and gender expression. Lesbians over 18 are eligible and $50 Amazon gift cards will be raffled for participants. The survey should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
