BATAVIA UNITED WAY                                                              September 2015

D ID YOU KNOW............?

Batavia United Way funds the
Elder Care Cen ter in Batavia. This non-profit provides safe and quality day services for at risk Senior Citizens. 84% have a memory disorder while others combat other affects of stroke, heart disease and other medical conditions. In 2014,
10 Batavians were provided activity, meals, socialization and are able to remain living at home as a result.
Such peace of mind for those who love them!

Lazarus House is another of the 18 non-profits we fund. 54 Batavians used the Emergency Shelter Program in 2014. 10 of the 54 were children age 18 and under. This is a safe, warm, hospitable and caring haven when there is no other place to go.
Unfortunately, numbers are expected to rise.

 13 Kindergarten Scholarships awarded

Thanks to our generous donors, 13 happy kids in need were granted SB6 scholarships that will enable them to have an all day kindergarten experience this school year.

The kids are from 6 different elementary schools in Batavia and we are confident this extra boost will have a long term affect on their education and family well being.

Thank you to United Way Board Members Cecelia Hoffman and Lisa Hillquist for spearheading this project and for the generous support of the Batavia Rotary, Kiwanis, Tri-Cities Exchange, Batavia Mothers Club and several individual donors. It will be a great year for these lucky kids and their families.

One parent indicated that her child, benefiting from SB6, also has substantial medical bills related to a condition with no end in sight. She said that Kindergarten Enrichment simply would not be possible without this help.

It has been our pleasure to collaborate with BPS101 and Batavia Park District to identify, screen and enroll our applicants.
