President's Message: How Can We Trust our Trust?
Welcome to Fall! Here in the Midwest, it is has been a spectacular Fall, with stints of warmer weather, cool air starting to creep in, and leaves giving us their spectacular color shows. Amidst all of the beauty, still our life responsibilities surround us each day. It is important to "stop and smell the roses" as they say, and balance that with the important life duties that we have to our families.
In the world of special needs, those duties can feel daunting at times. I know. I watched my parents try to balance a myriad of duties for six children, as well as the extra needs of my sister Marcia. Personally, I too have been thinking through how to best provide for my own boys, one with special needs. It is something we don't even want to think about, because we must live forever, right? But the reality says we need to plan. And our plans need to include special needs trusts. So how DO we know that the estate planning we have done is accurate, timely, and complete? How CAN we trust that we have done all we can legally?
This month, we focus on just that question. We have some wonderful insights inside this issue that I hope will be informative. And in the meantime, don't forget to stop and take in the beauty of the nature around us. As a good friend once said to me, "THIS day of our life will never come again...make sure to make the best of it".
Warm Regards,
Mary Anne Ehlert,
