The Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE) Annual Event is being held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Feb. 4-7. The local committee needs your help welcoming over 700 participants to our city. Consider volunteering at our local table for a few hours, helping participants get where they need to go and explore the fun Baltimore has to offer, and get a glimpse of what APCE is all about while you're at it.

Transitional General Presbyter

This has and continues to be a challenging time for my family. Today in Des Moines, Iowa our daughter Laura is undergoing a biopsy of a tumor on her spine. My wife, Linda, is at the hospital today with Laura and her husband. The tumor was first identified this past Thursday. I currently have a flight out of Baltimore tomorrow evening. Unless we receive amazingly good news from the initial read of the biopsy or I need to make other arrangements, I will be in Des Moines until my scheduled return flight on Tuesday morning Feb. 10. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

Next Church Baltimore-Washington Regional Gathering
What dream do you have for God's kingdom in your local community? Affordable housing for seniors? An innovative youth-leaders network? Robust campus ministry? These are the kinds of ideas that will be explored by church leaders attending Next Church regional gatherings popping up all around the country in the next few months. The regional gatherings - which surround Next Church's national conference in Chicago, Mar. 16-18 -- provide opportunities for church leaders to connect with others in the denomination through shared mission actions and innovative ministries.
As part of the regional discussions, Presbyterian Church leaders in the Baltimore-Washington area are invited to attend a gathering entitled Boldness for Today: Stories Worth Sharing, from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Bethesda. The Lutheran Theological Seminary, will focus on "moving past the perfectionism and fear of failure that so often prevents us from taking the first step." The group will also share stories of where God is already boldly at work and reflect on what boldness might look like within our own church communities. The fee is $25 and includes lunch. Next Church is a reformation movement for the church. While honoring and celebrating the past, the Spirit is calling a new church into being. Catonsville Concerts at 3 presents The Soldiers' Chorus of the United States Army Field Band in concert at 3pm on Feb. 8. The Soldiers' Chorus is the vocal complement of the U.S. Army Field Band, and has performed to audiences of all ages around the world. The concert is free, and no tickets are required. Springfield Presbyterian Church will host a classical concert at 3pm on Sunday, Feb. 8 featuring Walter Todenhoft, Clarinet and Carrie Ferguson. The duo will works by Claude Debussy, Ralph V. Williams, Percy Grainger and several other composers. Reception following the concert. A free-will offering benefiting the concert series will be collected.

Come celebrate and support what God is doing in and through the lives of our young people at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church's Come and Follow 2015 program at the Youth and Their Families Ministry from 6-8pm on Saturday, Feb. 21. This fundraiser for youth is a plain good time with great food, live music, a photo boot and countless auction items and plenty of ways to help raise our goal of over $30,000.  Seaside dunes, vineyards, fields of flowers and verdant woods are some of the subjects depicted in Portrayals of Life, Light and Color, an exhibit of landscapes in pastel and oil by local artist Joan Howe, which is on display in the gallery of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park now through Feb. 15. Springfield Presbyterian Church's Ruth Gosnell Education Fund provides interest-free loans to full-time college juniors, seniors and graduate school candidates for the 2015-16 academic year. Regardless of religion, all applicants will be given impartial consideration; and repayment of the interest-free loan does not start until 6 months after graduation. Click Gosnell for an application.
