Worried about being cold when winter cycling?
When the weather gets cold, I layer up. One layer works in summer and 2 layers work for cool spring and fall weather. For cold weather, I use 3 layers. A base layer to absorb the sweat and move it away from my skin. The second layer is the insulating layer that helps hold in the warmth. The third layer is the windbreak layer that keeps the wind from penetrating my apparel.
Additionally, remember to take care of your extremities: ears, fingers and toes. Warm gloves are a must (ski gloves work), as is a balaclava to cover your head/ears. Booties for the feet AND wool socks can keep you from getting popsicle toes. Check with your local full service bike shop for assistance selecting the apparel that is just right for you.
