Structured Phonics (O-G)
From Phonology to Syllabication to Morphology: The Three Levels for Decoding, Spelling and Vocabulary
Featuring
Ronald Yoshimoto, M.Ed., M.S.W., Fellow/AOGPE
Join us on September 23rd for this interactive, full day workshop with Ronald Yoshimoto, a much sought-after Orton-Gillingham master trainer.
Yoshimoto will present an overview of the Orton-Gillingham approach and share data from public schools, which has been his focus for the last ten years. He will address the scope and sequence of instruction, procedures, extensions, ways to deliver O-G instruction in small groups and whole classrooms, and how to integrate O-G with academic content subjects.
This is a hands-on workshop: Yoshimoto will demonstrate, and participants will do. The goal of this full day workshop will be to expand the participants' expertise.
Learning objectives:
- Develop an understanding of the three levels for decoding and encoding
- Acquire and apply the knowledge of a structured phonics program (O-G) including scope and sequence, lesson planning, procedures, and correction procedures
- Understand ways to integrate a structured phonics program with grammar, vocabulary, analogies, math, thinking skills, and science.
- Understand and apply knowledge of syllabication and morphology.
Certificates for 5 professional development hours will be provided at the end of the day.
