As we begin 2016, it seems like a great time to reflect on the journey we've taken over the past 25 years, what we've accomplished, and the plans we have for an exciting future.
I'd like to start by thanking our valued clients and each member of the O,R&L Construction team. I recognize that without your loyalty, hard work and dedication, we would not have made it to where we are today.
Our goal for this year is to meet our clients' expectations with strong planning, efficient design and constructability during the critical pre-construction phase. We start by reviewing the client's needs to determine the best options and utilize our experience with estimating, scheduling and achieving maximum building performance. To support this statement, we have hired and retained talented employees who are up-to-date with the latest design & project management technology. Our commitment to provide continued education for our entire staff ensures that we have the most efficient systems in place and that we can recommend the best plan of action for any construction project. We will continue to make sustainability, safety, and quality control a high priority from start to finish.
In these changing times, we are proud that we have remained a small local construction firm that has had low turnover and repeat clientele. Our goal is not to be big, but to offer a tightly knit organization that focuses on well-run projects. When you contract with O,R&L Construction you get a personalized approach with a small firm attitude and personality.

As the new year starts, so does the cold, snowy weather that poses problems for so many facilities. Below are some tips for how to prepare and maintain your facility throughout the colder winter months.
Prevent
complications with heating units since they will be working much harder than on regular days. Avoid the chance of them giving way at inopportune moments by replacing and/or upgrading systems as indicated by a contractor. Schedule a reminder to have these systems checked during the Fall!
Insulate all openings to the exterior
such as doors, windows, etc, by caulking and weatherstripping, and insulate pipes to prevent them from freezing. Have a professional help with identifying areas that may need fixing such as ducts, vents, wall cracks, etc.
Have furnaces and filters checked
and cleaned or replaced as needed to
prevent harmful gasses such as carbon monoxide from being released into the air.
Monitor sidewalks, pathways, and landscape
to prevent ice buildup. Ensure that all entrances and exits are free of ice through regular clean up.
Call in a professional to remove snow
from building roofs to prevent ice dams and roof damage.

Although she is one of the newest employees at O,R&L Construction, Louann has been very active both in our small community here in Branford, as well as in the much larger Greater New Haven community. When she is not accompanying her dog, Rocket, to her K-9 Good Citizen classes, she can be found being a good citizen herself and volunteering at community events such as the Terri Brodeur Walk for Breast Cancer, the Tough Mudder Obstacle Race for the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Fantasy of Lights in New Haven, just to name a few. Louann's positive energy is contagious, and is greatly valued here at O,R&L.
