Blessed, Inspired & Grateful: Be BIG for God

October 27, 2015

Ghoulish Blessings and Happy Halloween!

Last Sunday was one of my favorite Sundays of the year - Costume Sunday.  What great fun we bring to Sunday when we're willing to play!!  Already photos are showing up on Facebook.  You'll want to take a peek below and see how creative we can be when we let our hair down and put on our spooky masks!!

Dressing up for Halloween reminds me of Mardi Gras... The big party before the serious nature of Lent, like a celebration of what's to come.  In the Fall we turn from costumes to Thanksgiving, and there's always so much to be thankful for in our community.

We also turn toward stewardship activities in the Fall.

Stewardship is the call to be good stewards of that which connects us in community.  We are invited to consider the value of our Center and our spiritual family.  I am so excited to tell you that we have a brand new program we are introducing this week.  In addition to a special book study opportunity, we'll be adding several new items to our November Calendar.

I know you will be eager to be part of our Family Gathering on Nov. 22, where your feedback will be welcomed.  And we have a wonderful group of leadership volunteers, led this year by ministerial student Clyde Goins, who will be updating you weekly on our Stewardship Campaign.  Each week we will announce something new, including some new ways we will be spreading our wings in the West Valley.

So join us this Sunday for a message entitled:  "Let's Do This!"  Come and enjoy the amazing talent of our featured musical artists,  Andrea Beaulieu and Richard Palalay, who will be sharing a brand new original piece, "What is it but Beauty?"

I'm so excited to share these good things with you!!  See you Sunday!

My love,

Rev. Karen
Stewardship Study

Each November we gather together to study the writing of a New Thought leader.  This year Rev. Karen has selected Collected Wisdom by Dr. Raymond Charles Barker.

Dr. Barker was a minister in the Unity Church when encouraged by Ernest Holmes, founder of the Religious Science movement, to start a church in New York City, the First Church of Religious Science, in 1946.  He was later President of the International New Thought Alliance (INTA) and a well-known minister, author and teacher throughout the New Thought movement.

Last year Rev. Cheryl Hawkins taught a book based on Dr. Barker's book, The Power of Decision ( click here for a summary of that work).

Collected Wisdom is available at a discounted price in the WVCSL bookstore.

We will meet at the Center for four weeks of discussion on Monday  afternoons from  noon to 1 pm   or  Tuesday  evenings from  6-7  pm beginning  Monday Nov. 2nd and Tuesday Nov. 3rd . Our focus will be the first four chapters - one chapter per week.  The study group will be complete before Thanksgiving. Join us!
There is still time to attend - Classes this week

On Mondays through 11/16, join Rev. Cheryl Hawkins for "The Answer is You." Cost is $15/class and will meet from 6-8 pm.

And on Tuesdays the popular poetry slam, Beatnik Cafe with Hugh Rice, has been extended through November 3rd.  The group gathers from 6-8 pm.  Love offering.

Attend one or attend all--we welcome you!

Why is it the Annual GOTT Talent Show?

Join us on Saturday November 7th at 6 pm to find out.

There is still time to sign up in the bookstore to share your talents.  It's sure to be an evening filled with laughter and good times.

Love donation opportunity.

Metaphysical Book Group for 11/8/15

The book group selection for November 8th is I Can See Clearly Now, a memoir by Wayne Dyer.

Dyer says, "I wasn't aware of all of the future implications that these early experiences were to offer me. Now, from a position of being able to see much more clearly, I know that every single encounter, every challenge, and every situation are all spectacular threads in the tapestry that represents and defines my life, and I am deeply grateful for all of it."

The book is available through the bookstore. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion whether you read the book or not. Note that the discussion is a week early because of the Annual Holiday Bazaar.

WVCSL Annual Holiday Bazaar - 11/14 & 11/15

This year's bazaar will feature a number of hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind items.  (Shop early to snag one of these Real Women Angels made by Pat Wills!)

The holiday bazaar will feature a table of cookies, candies, and other baked goods--available to shoppers by love offering.  Sign up now to share your favorites.

On Saturday, the Divine Dudes will be serving up grilled hot dogs with drinks and chips.

Set up will be on Friday, November 13th (time TBA).

How about a good movie?

Our new DVD rental program will be starting up soon.  We are still looking for DVDs (and audio books) to add to the catalog.  You can drop off new and lightly used flicks from your collection that you've already watched and no longer need.  Or, if you find some good selections at a sale, consider buying and donating them.  Boxes are located in the bookstore or Papke Hall.  If you have any questions, contact Diana Kurlak.  THANK YOU!

Trained and licensed Practitioners are available for prayer support every Sunday after the service; and for private appointments.

To schedule a private appointment, click here for a list of licensed practitioners. You may also drop your confidential prayer request into the prayer box located in the Sanctuary or in the bookstore.  If you would like prayers from the community, post your request on the magnetic wall in the sanctuary.

(Practitioners are bound by a strict Code of Ethics which requires them to serve you on a confidential basis.  The Practitioner, who does not advise, will listen to your description of the conditions you are experiencing and through inquiry will determine first cause. This cause is the belief at work that is creating your current effects. The Practitioner will then assist you in reversing the limiting thought, and through Spiritual Mind Treatment will set the changes in motion.)
