Solo Sailing and the GLSS on Lake Ontario

The Lake Ontario Membership in the Great Lakes Single Handed Society (GLSS) continued to grow in 2015, now with 22 members, and we were proud to have 10 starters and 9 finishers of this year's 2015 Lake Ontario Solo Challenge Race.

We welcome two new members to GLSS: Colin Brown (RHYC) on his Swan 47 Sassafrass, and Ken Tramposch (YYC) on his Beneteau First 30 Sorpresa.  Both gentlemen have the honour of receiving lifetime membership in the Great Lakes Single Handed Society, and will be honoured at both the LO300 Banquet in September, and the GLSS Banquet in Detroit in January. In addition, Ken will receive the GLSS President's Cup, as top-placing first time finisher for 2015.

We are also proud to announce that Bert Barrett (BPYC) on Upstart, and Geoff Cornish (RCYC) on Roleur become the first Lake Ontario Sailors to complete challenges on all five of the Great Lakes in 2015. Bert completed his challenges by sailing the Lake Ontario and Lake Superior Solo Challenges, and now has 5 Solo Challenges under his belt. Geoff sailed the Lake Huron and Lake Superior Solo Challenges, as his sixth Solo Challenge.

Both Bert and Geoff completed the Lake Superior Solo Challenges in spectacular fashion, finishing 1st and 2nd place respectively, and proving beyond any doubt that Lake Ontario sailors can compete very well, all over the Great Lakes -congratulations!

Finally, at time of writing, Mac MacKenzie (EYC) on Worthy Pearl, David Courtney (LSYC) on Better Still, and Ron Smallbone (PCYC) on Epiphany, were competing in the 2015 Lake Erie Solo Challenge from Munroe, MI to Buffalo, NY, to Erie, PA.

Congratulations to all solo sailors on Lake Ontario. We look forward to seeing you on September 26th at PCYC.
