Set sail for this month's Susan Hood Trophy Race and the first LOSHRs course race, our much-anticipated kickoff events of the 2015 Lake Ontario Offshore Racing season.

Splash! Who's In?

And, with a splash, our two first two races of 2015 are nearly upon us: the storied Susan Hood Trophy Race, Friday May 29, followed by the Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing (LOSHRs) Course Race, May 31. On behalf of the Lake Ontario Offshore Racing organizing committee, fair winds to all sailors participating in a great lineup of races planned this season.

How do you celebrate launch?
Whether you slip a lucky coin in your mast step, burn your socks, enjoy a waterside rummer (may we suggest our favourite, Mount Gay), or any other unusual ritual, please visit Lake Ontario Offshore Racing on Facebook to share stories and photos (and get a chance to win cool swag!).

60 candles for Susan Hood! What's your best sailing tale?

Doug Hood aboard Junge.
We're getting birthday cake - and foulies - ready to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the "coolest" overnight offshore sailing event on the Great Lakes: the Susan Hood Trophy Race, May 29.

Founded in 1955 by the late Doug Hood as a trophy challenge to test a new sailboat rating system, he named the race in tribute of his then-newborn daughter. We're delighted this year that Susan Hood herself will join our pre-race activities, to honour her dad and kick off a classic start to the Lake Ontario racing season.

What's your most memorable experience of a Susan Hood race? Email us your stories at [email protected] or post to our Lake Ontario Offshore Racing Facebook Page for a chance to win swag and 60th Anniversary prizes.

Skippers... meet crew: Check out the crew bank

Need a ride? Looking for crew? Our Yacht Scoring race registration sites each feature Crew/Boat Boards where experienced sailors can add their name to the race crew bank and skippers can post their boat to attract recruits. Check back often to make a match:

* Susan Hood Trophy Race

* Lake Ontario 300 Challenge

Volunteers wanted

The next best thing to "being there" race day is to volunteer, on shoreline support or as water crew, and it's also a valuable introduction to race management. Encourage friends, family or sailing fans to apply for volunteer spots available at the Susan Hood finish line, as well as at the LO300 Challenge and LOSHRs races. Send an email with the dates/races you are available to [email protected] to sign up and get details.
