2015
Dear Friend,

We can't believe summer is already over! As the leaves start to change and the Girl Ambassadors applications begin rolling in, we're happy to present a season chock-full of new programming.

We hope you join us as we welcome new board members, reestablish lapsed committees, and find new ways to share Gage's legacy with the larger community. Please peruse the latest updates below, and we hope to see you soon!

Best,
Sarah
Visitor Spotlight
Hamilton College freshmen, wearing literally all of our costume items.
In this new, recurring section, we'll be highlighting memorable recent tours.

A freshman group from Hamilton College really got into the spirit of the Gage Center. Said one Hamilton student, "I was already excited about attending Hamilton, but I had no clue the area has so much history! And how had we never learned about Gage before? She's amazing! This has been so inspiring and eye-opening...I hope I can visit again soon." We hope to see them again, too. The enthusiasm of groups like these reminds us of the impact Gage's legacy can have.

Women on the Money

Hold a piece of history in your hands!

The Gage Center is excited to present "Women on the Money," a unique look at women's history through the lens of ancient
currencies. While the idea of a woman on modern US currency has been met with controversy, ancient societies granted this honor to a host of fascinating women. From Cleopatra to the  (now) little known wives of emperors, each influential woman remains an enduring symbol of her society. Discover what a simple piece of currency can tell us about the woman it features and the civilization in which she lived.

A hands-on show-and-tell, as well as a discussion of the #womenon20s campaign, will follow the presentation. Eight ancient coins will be featured.  Click for more info.

Gardens

Thank you to the Brockway Farms Garden Club for our beautiful new shasta daisies! The donation was made in memory of Eleanor "Ellie" Dutch, a longtime member of the club who always loved the shasta's cheerful blooms.

You may have noticed the gardens looking especially nice lately. Darlene Endy, master gardener, has stepped up and become our new gardening coordinator. We are so happy to have her on board. Be sure to keep an eye out for new plants and landscaping!
Community Happenings
Check out these other great community events that relate to the mission of the Gage Center:

November 21st: Opening of the new Ska-nonh Great Law of Peace Center. The former Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois site now celebrates the heritage of the Haudenosaunee.

September 17th:  Interfaith Dialogue Dinners  at various local host residences in and around Syracuse. Diverse groups offer their personal thoughts about faith and spirituality in friendly, facilitated conversation.

September 19th: The Fayetteville Festival takes place starting at noon in Beard Park near Wellwood Middle School. Join us and other community organizations for an afternoon of community, food, and fun. We'll be raffling off a $25 VISA gift card, so be sure to stop by the Gage table!
