President's Message

Sharon Mitchell
The most exciting month of the Impact 100 year is finally here!!!
We are only a few weeks away from the Annual Awards Celebration, when Impact 100 will award FOUR grants of $101,000 each.  These grants will enable four organizations to do a breakthrough, transformational project.  And we are able to give these grants ONLY because we have wonderful, passionate members who are committed to making a difference in our community.

Each of our seven Finalists has proposed an amazing project that has the potential to make a lasting impact in our community.  Our Finalists and the projects they have proposed are (in the order they established):

FREESTORE FOODBANK - proposing the Healthy Harvest Mobile Market project.

ACTIVITIES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM - proposing the Hughes High School Recreation Center project.

GREEN UMBRELLA - proposing the Taking Root in our Schools project.

THE POINT/ARC OF NORTHERN KENTUCKY - proposing the Social Communication Center project.

CLIFTON CULTURAL ARTS CENTER - proposing the Center Stage Renovation project.

MAY WE HELP - proposing the Workshop Equipment Purchase project.

SUPPORTS TO ENCOURAGE LOW INCOME FAMILIES (SELF) - proposing the Build-up Academy project.

It will be extremely challenging for our members to select only four of these programs to fund - since all of them are very strong candidates.  Because they are all so strong, I'm absolutely convinced that the four programs that are selected will have a huge, positive Impact in our community.

I hope you can join us for the Annual Awards Celebration (AAC) on September 15th. This event is the culmination of the Impact 100 year - the opportunity for you to hear from the Finalists, cast your vote, network with other Impact 100 members, enjoy a delicious dinner, and see which organizations receive our 2015 Grant Awards.  It is also a milestone occasion for the organization, since it is the first time ever that we will award FOUR grants in one evening!

The Annual Awards Celebration is also a wonderful opportunity to invite your friends and colleagues who may be interested in learning more about Impact 100 and potentially becoming new members.  This event is the absolute best opportunity to see Impact 100 in action.  And if we increase our membership contribution to $500,000 - next year we can award FIVE transformational grants!  Please help us "SPREAD THE JOY.  SPREAD THE IMPACT." with FIVE grants in 2016.

If you are unable to attend the Annual Awards Celebration on September 15th, please vote via absentee ballot.  We want all of our members to vote!!

Please remember to register for the Annual Awards Celebration, and invite your friends today!!!

Warm Regards,
Sharon Mitchell
President, Impact 100

Who I am?

I am happily married to Greg Carroll (who I met on a blind date almost 30 years ago!) and the proud mother of Kevin (24) and Corey (20).  I work as a Registered Nurse with Group Health Associates in the department of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.  Now that we are empty-nesters, Greg and I are getting back to enjoying the benefits of living in our wonderful city.  We love the culture of downtown, the trendiness of OTR, and cheer for the UC Bearcats!!  Between social outings I appreciate having the chance to take daily walks with friends on the Loveland Bike Trail and at area parks.  I feel blessed to live...and to have raised our children in Cincinnati!!

What got you involved in Impact 100?
My dear friend, Jenny Berg, had spoken to me about Impact 100 for several years (often during our walks mentioned above!) but I didn't feel I was ready for another commitment, or participation in another organization, until our youngest went to college. My parents taught me (and I hope that I have taught my own kids) that "we can all make a difference in the lives of other in need, because it is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant of differences."  After hearing from so many that the amount of participation within Impact 100 is completely up to the individual member...I decided to give it a try.  I will forever be thankful to Jenny for introducing me to this fabulous group of women who truly make a difference in the lives of others.

What keeps you a member?
I began participating in the organization first by attending the social programs...wine-tasting, cooking classes, and meeting women from around the city - what could be more fun???  Joining one of the Selection Committees then gave me perspective into the research and vetting process which goes into picking the non-profit organizations that will compete for grants.  It was challenging, stimulating, and extremely rewarding.  Next, I hope to be involved with the membership piece of Impact 100.  When all is said and done I am happy participating in an organization where there is "no guilt" associated with any level of involvement.  Impact 100 has something for everyone...I LOVE being a member!!
