Volunteer Opportunities Open for 2015 Community Service Day

Join us for the second annual Community Service Day on September 19, Folsom's largest day of volunteerism. This major citywide event mobilizes hundreds of volunteers of all ages and interests to complete projects throughout Folsom that make a positive, lasting impact in the community. Volunteer opportunities are now available

Celebrate National Night Out Tomorrow

The Folsom Police Department is proud to partner with the community for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. National Night Out is a nationwide program that promotes involvement in crime prevention, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. The annual event contributes to the low crime rate Folsom is known for and sends a strong signal to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and united. This year, Folsom Police Department, Folsom Fire Department and City officials will join hundreds of residents at neighborhood park and block parties that have been organized by local neighborhood watch groups. Attendees can expect to learn useful crime prevention information, and have the opportunity to meet police officers and firefighters, and possibly even a visit from the Folsom Police Department K-9 or mounted units. For more information on National Night Out or how to start a Neighborhood Watch in your neighborhood, call Jessica Hess, Folsom Police Community Services at [email protected].

Ask the City: Are Basketball Hoops Allowed on My Street?

Due to public safety concerns, basketball hoops and other obstructions on public streets or sidewalks are not permitted under Folsom City Code 12.20.040. Basketball hoops on streets and sidewalks can pose a potential safety hazard for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, and can also impair public services such as garbage collection and street sweeping. To report a violation, call the City of Folsom's Code Enforcement Division at 355-7316 or submit an online request form.  First-time violations are met with a warning, and a fine will be issued for non-compliance if the basketball hoop is not removed within 10 days.

Folsom Police Host BBQ "Meat" and Greet

Join us on August 29 for a community BBQ hosted by the Folsom Police Foundation and the Folsom Police Officers' Association. It's an opportunity to get-to-know local police officers while raising funds for local youth programs. Meet the K9 unit team, get up close to the horses of the mounted unit, and cheer on the Folsom Police Foundation and Folsom Police Officers' Association during the tug-of-war challenge. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for teens and admission is free for children 12 and under. The event will be held at Folsom City Lions Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information call Chris Aguirre at 916-420-7444.

Folsom Police Host Cop Camp for Youth

This summer, 24 Folsom kids had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of local law enforcement and develop strong bonds with Folsom police officers at Cop Camp. Hosted by the Folsom Police Department, the two-week youth summer camp is designed to build community partnerships with at-risk youth. Kids learned important safety, leadership and character-building lessons while having fun. Campers had fun bowling at Folsom Lake Bowl, playing sports at the Folsom Sports Complex, fishing in Amador County, and swimming at Sun Splash in Roseville. For some of the children, this may have been the only week of their summer that they left Folsom. The popular and successful camp is solely funded through community donations and the Folsom Police Foundation. Visit the website for more information about the Folsom Police Department's youth programs.

Help Your Trees Survive

the Drought

The Folsom community has done an exceptional job of conserving water, exceeding the 32 percent mandatory water conservation target set by the State Water Resources Control Board. As Folsom water customers continue to conserve, it's important to remember that trees need special care to keep them healthy. This is especially true for trees growing in lawn stressed by reduced watering over the summer and fall. Help your trees survive the drought with these useful tips from the Sacramento Regional Water Authority.
