Judges "Bowled Over" by New Lunch Menu Recipes
Dishing up the winning recipe.
As part of a school lunch challenge in Leah Madison's Foods II class, students were visited by Kathy Burrill, head of food service for the district, and Jeff Millard, a food broker with Hockenberg-Newburgh. After explaining to the students the nutritional parameters of a school lunch menu - for the day and the week - students were given a "mystery ingredient" and tasked with coming up with a new lunch menu item.  Each of the six groups came up with a recipe to work with the "mystery" bread bowl.   At the end of a week of testing, the recipes were judged by Superintendent Joe Thimm, Business Director Heide Miller, Brinks Cake Designer Alissa Edstrom, Chisago County Press publisher Matt Silver, CLHS Principal Dave Ertl, and Sarah Mavrelis. The voting was extremely close, but Santa Fe Chicken   created by Alexandra Vanderheyden, Nicole Schultz, and Elizabeth (Libby) Pombo  won out and will be featured on the school lunch menu on May 28th.  Recipes are also available for Baked Potato Soup , Chili , Italian Salad , Broccoli Cheese Soup , and Chicken Pot Pie . Check out the process in pictures here.

Mississippi 8 Conference Art Show at CLHS
Each year there are three art shows that CLHS participates in. The Section 7AA, the Mississippi 8 Conference and the School Wide Art Show. The Section and the M8 are restrictive and only 18 works of art are submitted for judging.  Each student must write an essay and be cleared by the Minnesota State High School League. The School Wide Art Show is an annual show put on by the Art Department of  Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Zarbok.  This show is open to ALL students at the High School. More pictures...and all the winners.
