Pastor Berg's Message
From the very beginning of scriptures the idea of a day for self-care and worship, better known as Sabbath, has been promoted as a central practice of faith.  In Genesis 2:2-4 we learn:

And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.

And in Exodus 20:8: Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.

Keeping the Sabbath is so important that even God does it! So, why is it so hard for us to keep the Sabbath? Read the rest of the article here .

Library News
New Books for children and for adults have been cataloged  and will be on a special shelf marked new books - ready for check out in February.

Over twenty new books are for children.  One is a reprint volume from a very popular older series called "ARCH" by Concordia Press.  This reprint with delightful drawings, and appealing text for young children includes parables, and stories from the old and new testament.  In addition to the larger volume there are small books of individual Bible stories.  Perfect for your new reader during a meeting or quiet moment.

For the older members of the congregation, in preparation for the 500 year anniversary of the reformation in 2017, we have added seven new books on Martin Luther.  These came recommended by our friend Mary Jane Haemig, a professor at Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul.  She has visited and spoke at our adult class on a number of occasions regarding Luther's catechism and theology.

Here is a partial list of the new Luther books:

The Genius of Lutheran Theology, Charles Kolb/Robert Arand

Where God Meets Man,  Forde

Martin Luther's catechisms, Forming the Faith, Wengert

Martin Luther: A Very Short Introduction
