Worship Services - January 31st
5th Sunday Special Offering for the United Methodist Children's Home!
Sermon: Eddie Pipkin
"Raising Hope: Speaking Truth to Power"
First Nehemiah convinced a king to let him leave his post to undertake God's work, then later when the privileged among his own people began to take advantage of the less powerful, Nehemiah held them accountable to God's standards for compassion and mercy. He conducted himself with humility and integrity, never forgetting his place and never shying away from God's vision, but always keeping himself and his people accountable to that vision in word and deed. We, too, have opportunities to stand up for what is right, but we are called to do so while leading by example as God's representatives wherever we go.

New Lenten Book Study Starts - February 7
Everyone is welcome to participate in a seven week study using the book, "Near the Cross, A Lenten Journey of Prayer," written by our Florida Conference Bishop, Kenneth H. Carter Jr.
We will meet Sunday nights starting
February 7th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m
. in the Choir Room, with the introduction and conclude Easter Sunday. The study will be led by Faye Myers and the Sunday Night Prayer Group.
"Near the Cross" calls you into a deeper life of prayer during the season of Lent. Based on Paul's Letter to the Philippians, it explores the connection between the cross and prayer in spiritual formation, in service, in our identity, and in our life together in Christian community. By coming near the cross through prayer, we can know and imitate the heart of Christ.

Ash Wednesday Worship Service - February 10
One Wednesday a year, sometime in February, you notice someone at work, school, or elsewhere with a smudge on their forehead. It looks as if they missed a spot when washing. But by the time you see the third person with the same mark, you realize it is
Ash Wednesday
and these passersby must have received the Imposition of Ashes to mark the first day of Lent (the 40 days of reflection leading up to Easter).
In the early days of the church, it was even more dramatic. Pastors didn't dip their thumbs into the ashes to draw the shape of a cross on your forehead. Instead, they poured or sprinkled ashes over your entire head.
Join us on
February 10th at 6:30 p.m.
for an evening of sharing prayer, song, communion, candlelight and ashes. This service will be family friendly, with a creative version of the traditional Imposition of the Ashes and the beginning of the season of Lent that all ages can participate in and understand.
Childcare will be available in the Peace Nursery for children 5 years old and younger.
