SRES Announces New Head of School

It is with great joy that St. Richard’s welcomes a new Head of School, Peter Harding, who will take the reins for the 2016-17 school year and beyond.  Harding comes to the School with academic leadership experience on four continents, including headmaster or equivalent responsibilities at six schools.  “Peter’s depth of experience will help us maintain our current momentum with strong enrollment, outstanding faculty and staff, and exciting plans for our campus,” said Valita Fredland, president of the St. Richard’s Board of Trustees.

Harding, a graduate of Bristol University and St. Paul’s College in England, will succeed David Amstutz beginning July 18, 2016, as Amstutz moves to join his family in Arizona where his wife, Karen Amstutz, M.D., is a senior executive with a major health care company.   “It’s hard to overstate the positive impact that David has had at St. Richard’s during the past four years,” Fredland said.  “He has strengthened the school’s operations, prepared it for the future, and built wonderful relationships with people throughout the St. Richard’s community.”

Fredland stressed that it is a good time to transition to Harding, who not only has had a genuinely global career but also has a strong grounding in the English school heritage – the original motivation for Trinity Episcopal Church to establish St. Richard’s that has distinguished the School throughout its 55-year history.  Harding currently serves as Principal of the Somersfield Academy in Hamilton, Bermuda, where he led the school through successful accreditation processes with the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the International Baccalaureate (IBO).  Enrollment has grown significantly and is now at the school’s capacity of 500 students.
