The Raising of America
On behalf of the NV Statewide MCH Coalition (NVMCH) and our partner Immunize Nevada, thank you to those who attended last night's screenings of The Raising of America in Las Vegas and Reno!  Below is a follow-up to the discussions generated last night, including a list of NEXT STEPS to help improve support of families during the early years of a child's life.

NEXT STEPS

1) Sign Strong Start Nevada's Pledge to make early childhood education a priority in Nevada.

2) Attend a local school board meeting and share your concerns about early childhood development (as they relate to literacy, kindergarten readiness and high school graduation rates).  Encourage the school board to use their authority to influence policymakers to make quality early childhood development a priority.

3) Contact your elected officials and:

  • Share our FACTSHEET on Early Childhood Development
  • Invite them to check out The Raising of America Project
  • Explain to them why early childhood development is key for a healthy and prosperous future for all of us, the barriers that the majority of families are facing and highlight why it's important to you personally.
  • Remind them about the Comprehensive Child Development Bill that passed Congress and was vetoed by the President in 1971.

4) Attend/host a Bridges Out of Poverty Training -   register here to attend or contact social@nvmch.org to host

5) REGISTER to attend the MCH Coalition's Advocacy Workshop (Las Vegas; August 6th) to learn tools and tips for working with the community and elected officials.

6) Talk to your friends and family!  Start the discussion and encourage others to get involved.

Save the Date!
Our next screening in the Last in the Nation Tranformation series will be Invisible Threat and will be hosted on Wednesday, September 10th from 5:30-8pm.
