Nevada MCH Coalition - Membership Newsletter

Immunize!  On time, every time.
Did you know? In recent years, Nevada has moved from last in the nation for immunization rates, up to 39th!  While this is an incredible accomplishment, there is still work to be done. This August, the MCH Coalition is proud to share incredible immunization-related activities taking place throughout Nevada and to highlight two of our dedicated partner coalitions working to protect all Nevadans from vaccine-preventable disease.

National Immunization Awareness Month - August
Every August, National Immunization Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to highlight the importance of immunizations across the lifespan. Activities during this month encourage all people to be protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.

This year, the National Public Health Information Coalition is coordinating NIAM activities and has created a toolkit, which focuses on four weekly themes:
  • Aug 3-9: A Healthy Start
  • Aug 10-16: Back to School
  • Aug 17-23: Off to the Future
  • Aug 24-30: Not Just for Kids
Other resources available for NIAM are featured on this sell sheet, including social media messaging to promote immunizations this month and all year long!
Nevada's Immunization Coalitions
Check out our amazing partner coalitions focused on immunizations and health for all Nevadans!

Immunize Nevada
Immunize Nevada exists to support community partners to successfully implement effective immunization efforts throughout Nevada; advocate for, inform and educate about the need for and benefits of vaccines;  and facilitate greater collaboration statewide to achieve Nevada's immunization priorities.

Immunize Nevada partners with the MCH Coalition to provide a statewide presence for our documentary screening series and other MCH Coalition events. In addition, they host bi-monthly community meetings, offer regular NILE webinars (see left column for info) and are the host organization for the annual Nevada Health Conference, to be held October 20-22 in Reno. Be sure to register soon!

Southern Nevada Immunization and
Health Coalition (SNIHC)
SNIHC is an engaged coalition of diverse members working throughout our community to promote health, increase immunization rates and reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable disease in Southern Nevada.

SNIHC works on a variety of campaigns throughout the year, including National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), Back-to-School, Influenza Season and WIC Immunization Linkage. On Friday, August 15th, SNIHC will host their 2014 Silver Syringe Awards to recognize immunization champions in the Southern Nevada community. Tickets are still available!
