Christmas Celebration

Happy New Year from Kamonkoli, Uganda! I hope and pray that all of you had a wonderful Christmas and that God's blessings will be there in your lives in the next year of 2015. We are so happy to welcome Melanie back to the field to rejoin us in our work here. We are thankful for the good work she did for us while she spent much of last year in the U.S.

We started the month of December with a team of 11 from Orphan's Heart. We had a wonderful time as we had the Christmas party for the women's Bible study and the men's Bible study, giving each one of them African donuts, cake and tea, as well as new sandals to wear. There were around 165 women and around 25 men. The message was shared and lots of fun too.

The children's Christmas party was an all-day affair with candy for every kid, a good hot meal, and lots of cake for all. We served lunch to over 1,300 children and youth. The Orphan's Heart team set up games and stations, including a DVD with a heart-warming story in which the children would rotate from station to station. All of the sponsored kids received a new outfit, several 2nd hand outfits (around 4-5 each), 2 kilograms of beef for each, lots of rice, corn flour, beans, sugar and soap for the entire extended family. The pictures below are showing one of the games being organized, part of the cakes - which read Hines Uganda.

Wedding Celebration

One of my sons, Duchu, introduced (like an engagement party where dowry is paid) and wedded in a week's time. He is a pastor of a church that he planted in Mbale in the slum areas called Revival Harvest Christian Church.

We are thankful to all of you who are making it possible to see the children grow up knowing Jesus Christ, who will also make a difference in the lives of others. We are seeing children who are overcoming their situations of poverty and beginning lives they never knew possible, thanks to the Lord and all of you.

God bless you all and thank you,

Katherine

Now Open
Holmes Medical Clinic

We had an opening for the new clinic building which is now done. We are working on buying the needed beds, and other furniture for the clinic.   Pictured below: Cutting cake with local official Geoffrey Macho, Ron Gunter and wife, Cynthia, and myself as we celebrated the completion.

Below is our waiting room. We will have it filled with chairs and patients soon as we plan our grand opening for the community at the end of January. Pray with us as we meet this vital need for the impoverished of our community and that we will have many opportunities to show them Jesus.

Our School is Growing
We broke ground last month for the 2nd school building for Genesis Nursery/Primary School in which Orphan's heart's Vice President, Ron Gunter, was able to be with us for this memorable occasion.  We are thankful to Orphan's Heart for coming alongside us to make a difference in this community.

Write Your Sponsored Kids
Many of you received Christmas letters from your sponsored children and want to write them back.  We rarely send mail to the field so please send your letters directly to the field address: P.O. Box 1402, Mbale, Uganda, East Africa.  Or you can email them (no pictures to download please) to Katherine and she will pass them on: Katherine@hineskids.org

Some of you have asked about sending footballs(aka: soccer balls) to your kids.  If you send us $20 with a note  we will be happy to purchase them in Uganda and give them to your children.
