Pastor's Pen

People have asked me what I might miss the most about Colorado and I can genuinely tell you - the change of seasons. I love seeing the reds, oranges and yellows of the trees.  I love feeling the cool breeze on the wind.  I love seeing the clear blue skies and orange and purple sunsets. Autumn has always special to me.  I don't know if it was growing up in central PA and seeing the harvest begin or the changing of the leaves or feeling the snap of cold in the mornings, but I was always excited for those first days of fall.

Regardless of where you live, it seems the fall season always brings a skip to people's step, a lightness to their hearts and a sense of fun to their lives.  Yes, there is football. There are also tailgating parties, pumpkins and mums to decorate our homes, harvest festivals and Thanksgiving to look forward to. Autumn is a joy and I want to reassure you I am already enjoying this autumn in Louisiana.

My move to Louisiana has been a happy one. I love UUMC: the people, the place and the presence you have on LSU campus.  I love the sense of mission and outreach that has carried this congregation through the years.  I am proud of our music program; our open doors to AA and Boy Scouts; and our sense of genuine hospitality.

I may say I miss the changing leaves, but I love my new home.  Thank you for accepting me.  Thank you for the privilege of being in ministry to and with you. Thank you for being who you are and allowing me to be who I am.  I couldn't be happier.

May God's grace abound,
Dr. Jane

HELP FOR THE REFUGEES THROUGH UMCOR

The current Syrian refugee crisis has gone on much longer than many want to acknowledge.  Refugees have been escaping from the Middle East to places of sanctuary since 2012 when they began pouring into Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.  Recently the problem escalated.  There is now a massive population migration going on that has not been seen since WWII. Thankfully, UMCOR is there to respond to the need.  UMCOR is currently doing as much as they can through partnerships with those persons on the ground and working to help in Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan.  If you've wondered whether the UMC is doing anything to help, it is.  We've been helping since 2012.  Thanks be to God for the good work of UMCOR. Your gift to UMCOR International Disaster Response, Advance #982450, will help to alleviate  suffering as a result of the current crisis in Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere.
