Why Give?

Bearcat B.E.S.T. Program

The Bearcat B.E.S.T. (Building Excellence through Skills Training) Transition Program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities began its inaugural school year this fall. Designed and implemented by Education professor Fr. Philip Kanfush, O.S.B., C'96, S'99, the program was developed out of the need for an educational bridge between the K-12 school setting and adulthood in an integrated college environment for students aged 18-21 who may not have the aptitude for traditional college education, but are able to achieve more independence than a sheltered workshop setting could provide. The four pillar areas of student development - functional academics, social skills, daily living skills and vocational skills - are focused on maximizing the independence of the Bearcat B.E.S.T. students in their adult lives. To learn more about the program and keep up with recent events, visit the website or like the program on Facebook.

Bendel's Corner
"Anyone who knows me, knows how strongly I believe in the advancement of the mission of the college. Quite frankly, how can it be otherwise? The campus is awesome! A new generation of students started here in September, and became a part of the Bearcat family. How can anything be any better?

That stated, and as a reminder to all of you, know that in my role as the Director of Planned Giving, I am here to talk with you at any time about your interest in supporting Saint Vincent.  There is no mystery about estate planning.  If you want to chat about ways to help the college beyond writing a check or buying a ticket for an event, give me a holler.  Responding to you at your convenience is welcomed; my cell is 724-244-4805 or  email me!

Planning a gift to the college has an enormous bearing on the future of this Benedictine institution.  Let me help you to make it happen.

If you haven't yet, please take time to visit our  planned giving page.

Thanks!

Jim Bendel, C'60, H'85

Attending Saint Vincent College was one of the best decisions I made.  The personal attention from the faculty and the Benedictines helped me to find my voice.  For a shy girl who chose Saint Vincent without knowing a single person on campus, that is huge!  I grew socially, academically and spiritually in a supportive and challenging environment.  All of my professors, particularly Fr. Justin Nolan, Fr. Tom Hart, Br. Elliott Maloney, Fr. Campion, Dr. Sommers and Fr. Rene Kollar (with whom I never took a class but who made it a point to learn my name and chat with me whenever we saw each other) encouraged me to discover my best self.  I am blessed to have spent my undergraduate experience at Saint Vincent College.  I might not be able to visit very often now, but I still look back on it as "home."
